What part of Germany?
Amir's right. Germany's a big enough place that it varies quite a bit:
By car-from my place: 6 hours.
from Saarbrücken: 3 hrs 45 min
from Berlin: 9 hrs 50 min

By high-speed train- from my place: 3 hrs 45 min
By plane : 1 hr 30min plus security hassles.

I'd go by train.

One of the papers is interesting to me. Here it is:
http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=18192

The researchers made a statistical analysis of subjective listening thresholds for dip/notches in frequency response. From that, they built an EQ model to much more efficiently EQ the dips. They refer to it as EQ with side-chain analysis.
