    Thank you @AnalogSteph for that detailed and informative answer. The ADI-2 DAC FS (no companies using confusing product names here!) would do well at the end of my audio chain. If my Linux machine can treat it like a soundcard via ALSA thereby finding it's mixer, I'm all set.
