Yes, the manufacturer makes it hollow (milled-out) from the inside. Maybe they target aerospace applications, who knows. Our custom made knob is full, although still aluminum, so not super heavy. The inertia is defeated by the detents of the sensor (rotary encoder). Glad you like the product!
