We don't recommend removing the woofer to do this. You should remove the port instead. Shorter will decrease the depth of the bass but will also cause more of a hump centered around 60-70 Hz to form in the response. Longer will create a shallower roll off with a bit deeper extension. However...

I recommend using all the foam in the kit until it's gone. We portioned out the amount we recommend using. Start with the back wall first, then the bottom and lower sides. The rest can be placed either on the upper sides or top as long as you keep it away from the port exit.

Half the reason we use the rabbeted edges is to prevent air leaks. You should not have to caulk around the inside at all, especially with the number of clamps you used.
