No, it is not really anymore.
For the moment it seems more like a benchmark of interesting, mentionable, extraordinary and divers Speaker Designs
(and of course also some beautiful designs inbetween).
...which is also very entertaining.
This sounds like a good plan!
People tend to concetrate on the wrong things (like the distortion figure, which is often already far below the hearing level) and lose their focus.
Not only in Audio.
Speaker Cable is the Most important for Center Speaker.
The Most important parameter for a speaker cable is the price. The higher the price, the better the sound.
Expensive cable have by physical law a better power flow:
Power flow = $ = Soundquality.
Especially for smaller Desktop Speaker I personally even prefer some more air-port-movement.
I know, it is against the common dogma to minimize the airport velocity.
But from my perosnal experience, I always preffered it, if smaller speakers move some air, what makes them sound bigger and more...
I would say Neumann and ATC follow a little different philosophies.
Neumann follows the classical ideals, which are normally praised here on asr.
The Neumann speaker measure very close to perfect.
I listened to a lot of them and yes, they are good. But I was sometimes missing a bit about Neumann...
Hello heboil,
about your question:
what Erin and Amir suggest about room-EQ, I don't know.
From my point of view:
Correcting the speaker makes often sensen, but also with some limitation.
Correcting afterwards the room above 500Hz could also make sense. I would prefere wideband EQs (Q<1,5) and...
If it is like that, than I would rather skip it.
Whatever these Music/Reording is at Minute 09:00, it's not useful to convince anyone about the audio-qualities of a speaker.
What shocks me the most about it:
Erin is doing all these measurements, comparisons and reviews to listen to such terrible music as in the video at minute 09:00 ?
If I see this picture:
70Hz are normally not possilble to localize.
But the (higher) distortion of a bass noice is!
You should try to decouple the Subwoofer from the solid ground. And make sure the radiator on the left is not ringing.
1. Low Frequencies:
If you want to listen to Music, normally a F3 of 50Hz is enough.
Lower than this, you have no relevant information for Music, but the very low frequencies can make your room 'ring'.
It's more important to place the speaker as good as possible in your room and correct the room...
