I use the EDC Pro with the stock cable and eartips. It sounds good to me, it seems to measure quite well too. It measures better than the EDX Pro. (Paul Wasabi measurements on squig.link)
I’d be more concerned about the output impedance of your receiver than EQing the headphone. It’s probably very high and is likely giving you some mid-bass bloat.
I bought a pair on a sale (it's the 1.8m cable version). I feel the HE400SE has a 'higher resolution' sound overall - comparing both with no EQ applied.
Audibly no. However I value perfect channel balance a lot these days, something these small amps do not have with their analog volume pots. If you do decide to get something I highly recommend it has a digital or relay volume control.
Yes, I agree. They aren't super "fun" because of the treble and bass being a bit neutral/rolled off. But it gives them this silky smooth sound that is hard to find in other headphones. To me the 650's are the sound equivalent of a warm cup of tea on a cool fall day. They do have a bit of clamp...
Have you ever tried an HD 650 or something else in the HD 6 lineup? They are known for having great vocals. I have the 650 and the vocals are quite intimate sounding. They are also well below your budget as I’m sure you are aware.
This review of the SMSL A300 (which uses the MA5332MS) shows the load dependency. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/smsl-a300-stereo-amplifier-review.46742/
Thank you for the graphs. The SMSL AO200 is definitely a great unit. It drives my speakers with ease. I believe it is better than the AO200-MKII because the MKII uses a different chip (the Infineon MA5332MS) which I believe is not load independent so the frequency response will vary depending on...
The SHP9500 with the Oratory1990 PDF eq sound very good to me. I use them without the deep sub bass boost part of the eq (as is mentioned in the pdf if you worry about deep bass distortion). Bass extension and boost is the main weakness of this headphone with or without eq. This headphone is so...
Yes, that's the one. I use the Peace GUI for my Oratory1990 profiles. I input the numbers manually and then save the configuration. I have a few different headphones saved. Here is what mine looks like currently:
Yes usually I just leave windows set to the highest bitrate I might play. With the mx3s that would be 24 bit 96 kHz because I don’t have any files higher than that. If the dac can do 32 bit (mx3s can’t) then I would set the unit to 32 bit 96 kHz. The mx3s is a good unit. Enjoy.
