They've arrived , now to make a cappuccino and sit down for an unboxing and an afternoon of listening.....months of anticipation rather than the usual 24hr instant gratification........will they live up to the hype I've allowed to build up inside my head ?.......I'll be back to report....later......

From my initial impressions i have to say the Lyra is one of my better headphone purchases over the years, given how warm it is in the UK at the moment (breaking all records for May) the Lyra is remarkably cool to wear, and the bass is thunderous on the max setting - I can feel it in my jaw, Underworld - A Hundred Days Off (one of my fav underworld albums) is sounding so good.

Not tried the diffuse field setting yet, enjoying the thunderous bass too much

Was using my iPhone 17 and Jcally JM20 Max dongle and sitting around 70 - 75% volume (approximately)

Any further impressions or comparisons to other headphones you own?

What is your use case? Presumably these don't isolate at all so to me that would limit portable usage somewhat to quiet places.

My first pair of proper headphones was my Koss Porta Pros i bought to pair with my WM-DC2 Walkman as a kid in late 80’s and I always wanted something similar, but better as an adult

They are very comfortable on my head, although I only have then on 4 out of 16 points of engagement on the headband so I guess my head is smaller than I thought?, or my ears are odd/higher up my skull?……. or I just have a weirdly shaped baw-heid?…… , the silicone/rubber headband grips my shaved head extremely well so the fear of them falling off is non existent. Pads are very comfortable and I could wear them for hours in this heat, which is currently 25° here in Scotland.

Very easy to wear but don’t block outside sound being open/on ear, but I can see no reason for wishing for that in my use case, my HD490’s are rather big/don’t fold up teeny like these do and are hot - sound wise?.......I'd be perfectly happy with these as my only headphone but take that with the understanding that I live alone, sat at home most of the day due to SPMS so don’t really go anywhere much apart from runs in the car, no neighbours and can play my Dynaudio system in my signature as loud as I like for 24hrs/day - headphones for me are the equivalent of fast-food (yuk!)…..ok for a fix and perfectly pleasant but incomparable to a nutritious meal such as my Dynaudio system in my treated room.

As for bass/treble response? I have one notch away from full +8db bass mode and the treble peak at 5khz is not as prominent as I feared….i may play about with peq but I’m 90% convinced it will not be needed but I’ve only listened to heavy sub bass electronic tracks so far, may be an issue with bass light or vocal led acoustic tracks - I’ll have to experiment further but I’m only authoritative on what I like regarding the audio from them.

I'm still very impressed and chuffed I got in early for the £100 kickstarter campaign.

It’s not all roses and singing angels though , the case needs a bit of work to be 100% functional. I’ll show my issue below

But first, if you need to tighten the headband adjuster it’s a T2 torx, teeny-tiny so I suggest you buy yourself a Hoto 24 in 1 Precision Screwdriver (handy to have for everything teeny)

This is the headband position that I use

But it does not fit into the case when folded with my headband position, and with the cable attached

So, opening up the headband to fit in the case with the cable attached we have this position below, with the cable still attached it protrudes into the internal space for the cable and we need to stuff the cable on top, it’s a very tight fit and places strain on the mmcx connector

If I was using the case I would remove the cable from the headphone and then place in the case as below , for piece of mind you may prefer to use/buy a mmcx removal tool such as This type here, other types are available

What I’d like to see for V2 is a slightly larger case with improved internal moulding so you do not need to adjust the headband to fit inside the case and an internal pouch/sleeve for the cable.

Observed the package and thinks that this is a good phone with another concept I adored - mechanically adjustable tuning which is found on AKG K267. Sadly I am too new for ASR thus I missed the plot. Would like to have a demo to try in HK! I am not good on reading stats so not much can be said, But gotta appreciate the great pricing of cables.

Also curious if Zayllio would do Closed Back phones.

Very happy with mine, I got the silver version with the USB cable and the MX pads

I like the look in silver it's very chic. I like the confort, it's pretty lightweight, and the silicone band holds very well on my hair, I could do some light workout without problem it stays well in place !
The cable feels great, very flexible and no rubbing noise (haven't tested the gaming mic yet)
The whole feels polished and good quality, but you still want to take good care of it, it's definitely not as robust as a Beyerdynamic that you can throw everywhere !

For the sound I don't have much examples to compare to, but to me it seems very good, everything is there at its place with the standard pads. I love the tuning system with the knobs, you can go from what I would call a delicate sound with light bass to a more fun setup with a good amount of bass, and everything in between (yeah I know parametric EQ... but this works on any source with no hassle)

Obviously no isolation here, but sometimes you want that

The MX pads are very interesting and I love the people at Zaylli for having imagined and actually made such a thing work ! The idea is that the ear pads mainly clamp on your head behind you ears with the thin black plastic thing. This creates a big open space between the earcup and you ear so that it can breathe. It's a cool sensation, you don't feel enclosed and nothing presses on your ear ! Very confortable over several hours

Notice the strange alien waveguide-filter-thing, don't know it's effect but looks awesome

The main change I feel in the sound with the MX pads is that the voices feel a bit further, but just the voices. Low-end still sounds great, I'm especially impressed by the clarity that the bass guitars get I really love that. High-end still sounds crisp and not distant

So overall extremely happy with my purchase and congrats to the Zaylli team, it's really a great product and innovation

I don't know if it would be the best choice though as a main headphone it you are looking for something standard and very robust, but if you are open to try something new go for it !

At $114/£85 for the MX ear pads delivered I'm going to pass on buying them, I only paid £105 for the headphone itself, and prob should have paid the small extra for the MX pads at time of kickstarter pledge so whilst I'd like to try the pads out I don't listen to headphones enough to warrant spending that much, I've only got a few hours listening on the headphone itself in two months of ownership and they sound fine as they are for my needs.

Be interesting to hear others opinion on the MX vs standard ear pad though.
