Hey YouTube....just a thought but when I click on the "YouTube featured" headers on my page to say I'm not interested in such then perhaps try and pay some f**king attention and adjust my algorithmic feed to stop serving them up every time I refresh the page, same with the amount of shorts you constantly attempt to push my way.....I'm not f**king interested in the shorts, never watched one in my life as I do not have an issue with my attention span so take this as advice and sort your f**king act out and stop filling my feed with inane f**king parasitic shite, I've paid for YouTube premium for over 10 years and lately it is doing my f**king head in so there's a good chance I'll cancel and explore add blockers etc.
rant over....and yeah....I did send the above to YouTube premium
Am I the only one?....

No your not. The race to the bottom on everything internet (social media) continues. I just deal with it by not dealing with it. I have a permanent ban from Facebook going on 5 years now. I don't miss it. I only do youtube and two servers on Discord and that is it. My main interest is ASR and my discord servers that I check on daily. ASR is the best free thing you can do with a computer!

Yeah that’s what I’ve viewing from the published reporting on “YouTube” , once an algorithm runs amok it’s pretty much game over. Some folk on advice from YouTube have had to create entirely new accounts as there’s been no possible solutions.

As for social media as a whole?, never had MySpace/facebook/instagram/whatsapp/linked in or similar, I did have a Twitter account as I joined in 2007, it was handy for my job back then as a mtb guide/coach, an aid to schedule rides meet ups. Now banned for upsetting the musk man child.

Oh well, race to the bottom it is with algorithms/a.i. guff and ever increasing advertising and price rises despite record profits for thse companies

On my Mac I only use Chrome browser for YouTube and the Pie Adblock extension. There is a brief pause before a video begins but no adds or breaks for adds during the video. No adds on the Home Screen either. The only Google tool I use - you know they're training their AI off your Gmail accounts now?

I feel like I just jinxed myself by typing this out loud though....

Don’t use chrome/google as I’m happy with safari, and with all the shite that’s coming out regarding Chrome/google i glad I made that choice.

Firefox that deletes everything everytime I close it. My YT home page everytime I open it.

I use Safari for everything else. You can set up Chrome to log yourself out, delete caches and start fresh (you'll need to log back in) each session. Safari is an absolute nightmare for YT - probably Google's vengeance. Haven't tried other browsers because my solution "just works".

I use Safari with the Adguard extension and have no problem with Youtube. No adds or weird breaks.

Concerning Shorts specifically: If you use the extention "Enhancer for YouTube", you can remove shorts entirely in it's options. Also is very useful in other ways to customize Youtube.

I think I stopped (for the most part) getting fed David Hurwitz's YouTube posts after tagging "not interested" on them three times.

Am I the only one?

Freetube, Invidious, Yattee etc. will make you a much happier person – at least when it comes to trying to watch the occasional video and retain a semblance of privacy and sanity.

If possible self-host an Invidious instance, point Yattee at it for mobile use and keep Freetube as a backup ...

I have absolutely no idea what the above means :D , I switch my iMac on, and open YouTube (never owned a tv)....thats about as far as I wish to get involved.

I follow about 100 folk on YouTube from engineering/physics/tech/iems/audio/mtb stuff/cars/culture/news/mountaineering/scotland etc and happily pay for premium but it seems to be rapidly going downhill over the past year.

If it were not obvious, they are various apps/pieces of software that can ameliorate the most frustrating and alienating effects of YT's algorithms.

thats about as far as I wish to get involved

I can understand that. However, if you – as a paying customer – find the YT experience as frustrating as you seem to, it may be time to learn how to take back some control. I agree it shouldn't be necessary.

It's almost impossible to live in current society without being forced into some engagement with YT or other Google product. My threshold of frustration with this state of affairs was crossed several years ago so it's probably close to a decade since I've had any account on any of Google's 'services' including YT. I refuse to give them any of my money when the 'benefit' is so one-sided and the experience so deeply dysfunctional ...

Welcome to corporatocracy, this is exactly what unbridled greed does to people. Classism breeds corruption which produces incompetency. Civilization once again in decline due to the unethical actions of powerful people.

I signed up for Peacock Streaming last night so I could watch the Olympics here in the USA. Incredibly frustrating process of payment, giving them info I'd rather not and the whole thing took probably 10 minutes. I plan to cancel in a month so should've sprung for the higher tier as I get frequent commercials.

I use Apple Music and the algorithm works really well. Once it gets locked in it can play for hours and I’m very fussy (as I’m sure we all are)

YouTube is only for old garage rock and African 45s and random obscure things not on streaming for me.
