I’m not sure where to put this so I’ve tried here.

Does anyone know of an adblocker that effectively kills, stone dead, all adverts on YouTube please?

Just use the brave browser - it seems to be able to just not play the ads. I treat it as my youtube app. :-)

Cheers.

I’m also looking for one that works with iOS, if anyone can help.

I'm still with Firefox - µBlock Origin (with more or less all blocklists enabled) and Sponsorblock are doing the job well.
P.S. But I'm on Linux, not iOS.

On PC add uBlock Origin as an extension to your browser of choice. Does not skip sponsored content that's embedded into the video, though (because YouTube is not it's main focus). Otherwise perfect. Haven't spent a day in the past 1.5 decades browsing the web without it.

On android smartphones install Newpipe. Get it via their website or the FDroid store. Doesn't skip embedded sponsored content, either. Does not allow for login into your account. All subsciptions you add via the app are saved locally only. Works like a charm, though.

For TV use: install SmartTube on the media player / tv stick of your choice and never look back. Highly customizable. Uses sponsor block, which skips embedded ads very precisely. Get the .apk via its official website. Instructions on how to install can also be found there. I have it installed on my Zidoo Z9XPro media player that runs their android version without google play services, as well as on a TV Box that runs the latest version of google tv. Works lile a charm on both.

Edit: don't know about iOS. The Vivaldi browser features an integrated ad-blocker. Might be an option if uBlock origin doesn't work on iOS.

Yes, pay for Youtube Premium. :D

Seriously, I got tired of the cat and mouse games with blockers and youtube. I signed up for youtube premium and not only are the ads gone, but videos load up instantly. With blockers, there was often a delay before the video started. You also get to watch some movies for free (but standard definition only). And can watch some videos offline.

I use the app ,GreenTuber, on Android (Google). You'll usually only see one Add when you first open the app. But you can skip it easily by minimizing and re-opening the app wich takes just a second and than your ready to go. It includes background playback, Brightness and volume are easily controlled by touch gestures on the left and right edges of the display and youve the same controlls, Videozoom works and sll that by using your normal Google/Youtube Account / Login. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't really see the point in throwing money down the throat of every company with their ridiculous subscription models

Yep, :) , premium user for 10years + , but I so so wish I could customise my feed/home page to remove shorts/most relevant/ and for YouTube to actually pay attention to when I click “not interested” only for them to say “got - we’ll tune your feed/recommendations” but they never do which is seriously pissing me off…..and “YouTube face” on the video headers/thumbnails…..stop it…just feckin stop it.

Rant over…..here’s a short 5 min video of my mate

My old mate stars in a video for beer which is very apt, I’ve known Stephen since early 90’s but he moved from here in Galloway back up to fair isle 10odd years ago to fulfil his destiny (and birthright) where his ancestral tree can be traced back 500 years

They are so obvious too. I keep dismissing the game thing over and over again, but it keeps showing up.

The whole recommendation engine is so stupid. Just play one video on a topic and most of your recommendations become that. Gets so tiring to see the same topics over and over.

The height of stupidity is to recommend my own videos to me!!!

I think I got rid of the shorts by clicking the 3 dots on the right side of the shorts videos, and then choosing “show less shorts” or something like that. I did the same thing also for the second row of shorts, and got rid of them too.

I’m not on my computer right now, but I think they are all gone from my YouTube homepage since I did that.

Thank you Amir, honesty is still (and always will be) the best policy.

I was also hesitant to pay for Premium back then. But then I figured I watched a lot of YouTube, and also could share the plan with my set up family members. Money well spent IMO.

Oh yeah…I forgot to rant about this, on Sunday i watched 4 videos of e-reader reviews as i currently read e-books using my iPad/iPhone from apple book store and I think the backlight screen is making my eyes funny, I want a small size b+w e-reader that could fit in my pocket but now YouTube has decided that all I should watch is e-reader reviews………

Makes no difference, they come back…….

The enshitification is here to stay
