Yes, and from my subjective point of view, nothing very special, progressive or experimental, sorry :) But I'm not saying, it is bad, I see some good polyphony, percussions/drums/cymbals, "time-development" there, and some humour too :) I like the vinyl design as well!

Fair enough. It's still recognizable as music, true.

Maybe I'm one of those face-mask wearing, herbal tea sipping, vaccination-avoiding people who tap their toes to the beat of the ELF transmissions keeping them up at night? This would likely qualify me as a level 7+ but would make me no more of a discerning music listener than a panel beater trying to keep time with Bill Ward on the drums.

The truth is that the last rhythm we're likely to hear is the "one-two-three" of the EMS Tech performing CPR on us in the back of a moving ambo. Anything up to that point has the potential of being quite enjoyable.

I also noticed they completely ignored classical, and all the sub genres, I assume it's like it used to be in the largest record shops, eventually you spotted the door hidden away to the classical section, an oasis of calm.

indeed. and tons, and tons of ****** variety LPs with weird pairings of a-side/b-side that no one is ever going to buy, just throw them out already!

and their 6 boxsets of Don Giovanni and Carmen, all of which have huge scratches. If you're lucky, you might find Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, but then the LP with Martern Aller Arten and Welche Wonne is worn to nothing.

If you're ever in LA, make sure to check out the Record Collector store. Just don't go in to browse, the owner Sandy hates that.

p.s. the world has enough crappy recordings and scratched wax of Jupiter and no. 40.

I have a friend who owns a used/new record store. His prices are high, but he doesn't care how long you rummage the bins. I thought, what kind of record store wouldn't appreciate 'browsing' the product? Then I saw the Yelp reviews. The owner sounds like a real winner. A sample:

The very first thing this guy says is "don't touch my record player. It's fifteen grand, and I don't want you destroying it." My retort was, "I paid thirty thousand for my car, but you can feel free to touch it all you want. I'm not weird that way."

I knew the game when I saw no price tags on the albums. This guy ran his store just like a vintage record store I went to in Dallas in the 1980s. He'd size you up before deciding the price. Same with this guy at The Record Collector.

My visit ended with the proprietor looking at my mother and telling her that she should have drowned me when she had the chance, but then it's best she didn't because that would foul the water supply. This is insult gold at a very high level: record store employee level.

And for the love of god, can someone please explain to me why he has mannequins in the store?!!? Idk what's worse the fact that they're there or that he has them wearing some of the uglies clothes I've ever seen!! Did he loose a bet or something??

I have never wished ill on an independently owned business, but I'd rather see a Tower records there than these old guys

the owner came up behind me and said "find anything yet?" I said no not yet, and he said "you're not gonna. Stop looking at each record. You're going to put wear on them." He then asked me to leave and tried to explain how if I want to buy anything from him I'll need to send a "want list" to him in advance.

I kind of felt like he was an aggressive car salesmen. I just wanted to look around but he gave me the feeling as if that wasn't an option because he kept moving with me anytime I was looking through the records.

I made a comment as I was looking at jazz records that I had one and I loved it. I asked how much it was and he told me $50. I said ok. He asked what I paid. I answered honestly-$10. He lost it and started yelling at me in front of my wife. Chased me out of the store. Never encountered anything like it.

I can only assume you have never been subjected to audiophile jazz, stunning recordings of decent players of famous songs somehow yielding something almost, but not quite, entirely unlike music.

Vintage blues sounds somewhere higher than 1 on that entertaining but meaningless scale.
Sounds like "Jazz at the Pawnshop" to me.

At what point does it stop being music and become just noise?

They missed level 0 - audiophile recordings.

They should vinyl setup records to level infinity.

This is the track for anyone interested.
Roon tells me it's indie folk, seems about right.
Yes, I'd say that label works well for KC. HAve you heard "your own spell" on Diamond Mine- my goodness

Probably not until no one at all enjoys it any more.
Until nobody performs it anymore. I suspect that a lot of fans of "outside" anything are adopting a posture more than actually being engaged with the music.

That assumes it was ever performed in the first place.
I did some radio in the late 1980's, 1990's. A fair amount of "New-Age" programming. Listened to a lot of synth recordings. There was a CD by a Greek keyboard player, very soothing sound, a slowly moving but melodic synth sound. Got my hands on a good synth, fiddled with the presets, managed to get the same sound, just keeping a finger on the keyboard. I could have left a brick on the keyboard, it would have made the same music as the CD.

I was doing some technical work for "Music From the Hearts of Space", also my own late-night Sunday show on KPFA Berkeley. A freind loaned me a Casio FZ-1. Like I said, fiddled with the controls, set my finger on a single key, the presets pumped out new-age music, identical to a CD that was commercially released.
