Your latest cool purchase

Probably the four bluray set of Joni Mitchell albums.

At a musical event where everyone was amplified, I plugged my Washburn C5CE guitar (classical, nylon string with a cutaway and built-in pickup) into a Fishman Loudbox Artist. I then knew I needed a guitar amp, but the Fishman amps were just too expensive, even used. Wandering around on the internets I landed on the Fender Frontman 25r. It checked off enough boxes and could be found for a little over $100, tax and shipping included. It showed up this morning and I couldn't be happier, with the exception that this amp, being solidly built and considerably larger than the Loudbox Artist, is also noticeably heavier. But it is exceptionally clean sonically, has built-in spring reverb and tone controls for treble, midrange and bass. Also, this turned out to be an exceptionally clean looking amp:

It's really cool. I like it very much. :D
Thanks! Building it was a pretty enjoyable way to spend a snowy weekend. Basic assembly + decals took just a few hours, but I ended up painting in a bunch of details.

Any good sandalwood centric recommendations?
Trumper Sandalwood is very good. The classic recommendation would be Chanel Egoiste (not egoiste platinum). If you really want to spend money, Serge Lutens Santal Mysore. I'd go with Trumper though, very wearable.

I presume that foil inside is helpful? There are always runners roaming around here in foil capes after the NYC marathon which sometimes happens on chilly days.
Within moments of putting on the jacket I feel reflected warmth. It's a micro thickness foil with very small holes in it to permit ventilation. I'm excited to test it out because I wear a excellent 700 weight down filled Marmot Guides Down Hoody which I have worn down to -37C (Near -40F) and I was OK inside. I don't expect the new Columbia jacket to perform like that as it is maybe 1/2 the thickness but I have high hopes and being synthetic materials I can machine wash and dry without any special detergent or using 18 tennis balls in the clothes dryer to fluff up the down jacket and prevent clumping as it dries. :D I'm a bit stoked. My previous tweener (In between weather.) puffer jacket was a Marmot and I am too large now for that so it hangs not being used and I really need this tweener.

Marmot makes really good stuff. Sadly my arms aren't long enough to fit them, which is so odd.

Or I could go for the joke that my arms aren't long enough in more ways than one.

When Marmot was offering the Big'n Tall offerings I bought the Guides Down Hoody in a 4XTall and I am 6 feet at 320 pounds. It has very long arms and goes wayyy past my waist which for my local is excellent for blocking the cold wind. I checked Amazon where I bought my 3rd Guides Down Hoody and they have the big'n tall sizes available still. The 2XTall is very reasonably priced and the 3XTall is wayyy overpriced.

That is a great deal. But Dood, we gotta get you off the pasta and pizza! Man I could live on that shit everyday but I'd be as big as a house. I'm 6'1" and trying to get from 187 to 177. Sucks.

This all from 180 pounds in the space of about 7 to 8 years. before I was a decent size but now that I am stationary most days I gain weight slowly. I bought a new digital weigh scale from Amazon yesterday and I hope that will give me a daily test reading with spreadsheet record keeping so I can make way losing weight. I actually ran across 8 lanes of traffic a few days ago and I was not huffing and puffing after but I felt the weight for sure. The other day I slammed/squeezed both my shoulders between those vertical pipes for handholds on the public transit buses and that hurt because my shoulders are pretty wide now. Must lose weight for sure. A buddy ate 1 meal a day for a month and lost 30 pounds. So I'm looking at that kind of approach. Minimize caloric intake.

I did the "Fast 800" diet a while back. Definitely helped me lose weight. Wasn't a sustainable diet for me, but I'm glad I did it, because it helped me think more about nutrition and fasting. My weight has fluctuated since then, but I've managed to keep it below what I used to be.

In that lies the key. When I walk through the grocery I see cheeses, meats, sausages/hot rods, wieners, breads, frozen tatoe products, eggs, butter etc. I have little to no knowledge about what is full filling satiating dietary food. I will need to fill the cart with stuff I am not exactly familiar with.

caloric intake aside, IMO trying a Mediterranean diet is a good place to start*

*for some people. I am not a medical professional

I was eating a tomato'n rye with mayo sandwich today and thought of the same thing. It's delicious, something to look forward to each day and very heart healthy. Good suggestion. :D

Great little amps. I once had one in limited edition red, wish I never sold it.

If you want to make a small investment in one of these, you'd be very pleased with the improvement. :)

Those Frontman 25r's in red go for around $300 now, used. I was reading up on a number of replacement options for the driver before I got the amp. I suspect that the big virtue of a replacement speaker (for me, at least) would be more volume, as I like the sound right now. I'll see. The one name that's come up the most is the Eminence "Ragin' Cajun'". Those go for what I paid for the amp.
