Your latest cool purchase

A pair of 50 year old Yamaha NS-18 speakers.
They were cheap, cabinets and grills in decent shape, and the drivers work as new.

With ear-shaped woofers.

Nice, what lead you to that specific model?
It’s beautifully simplistic. It keeps impeccable time and It’s so beautifully made. It’s absolutely stunning in real life. It’s also an investment, I bought it in the late 80’s. And for what I paid for it then I could sell it now for about 40% more than what I paid for it. But I would never do that. Also, my dad had a Patek very similar to this one.

Agree to the Dunu S&S tips, I listened last night with the supplied medium tips but swapped out for small Dunu S&S earlier today and they seem to stay in my ear canal without loosing the seal over time, for long listening sessions I can find the Dunu tips to be irksome so i have the Penon Liqueur ear tips in orange and black versions and Divinus Velvets so I’ll play around.

The ear tip retention ring on the end of the iem nozzle is quite chonky so I may take a small diamond file around it to reduce the diameter of the nozzle ring, it’s practically impossible to fit/remove tips as is.

I attempted to remove the cable last nice but jesuzzz it’s tight, think I’ll just leave as is.
How are you finding them now . Must admit I love mine . I suspect the comfort is part of it and the ear massage from the low end .

Sorry about that Adam

Congratulations! Freaking awesome speakers. Are you going to add a sub later?
Not sure, I've been looking into that. However, my amplifier (Peachtree audio decco65) does not have a sub out unfortunately

Edit: I stand corrected. Just checked and I have a pre out I can connect a sub too!

Yep good to go!

To be honest I’ve not listened to them for a week or so, i live on my own so I get to blast my monitors/sub 24/7 if I wish - iem’s/headphones are just my novelty kick/listen. I did change over to the Penon liquor tips in black and I found the comfort much better as I wasn’t aware of wearing the iem’s whilst still keeping a really good seal.

I may try the Divinus velvets but the velvets have a rather dense rubber core sleeve so I know I’m going to struggle to get them onto the Deuce nozzle.

As for the audio quality I really like them, deep visceral thump and drive from the low end which goes well with electronic music, I’m not bothered about the impedence adapter though, if I want to tune them I’ll use peq on my Hiby R6 iii and adjust to taste.

Don’t think I’ll be selling them so my current holy trinity consists of #1 Symphonium Meteor #2 FatFreq HBB Deuce # 3 Sony XBA-N3, over the past 4 years I’ve bought/sold a dozen or so such as 7Hz Timeless, Dunu Vulkan, Moondrop Variation (fit issues) so I think I can safely say that I’ll not be buying anymore iem’s…….this year ;)

my new tennis racket!!!
Yonex makes a great stick. I use the Roger Federer pro staff 97. I played on the tour in the early 80s and my first job out of college after playing for Murray State was at John Newcombe‘s tennis ranch in New Braunfels Tx. My first boss was John Newcombe. I worked at the Tennis Ranch I was the junior director there for seven years worked there for a decade. I was very lucky to go on and coach, Andy Roddick and Wayne and Byron Black and then do the Tennis fantasy weeks with all the legends Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Fred Stolle, Marty, Reisssen, Dick Stockton, Roy Emerson, Mal Anderson, Mark Woodford, the Murphy Brothers, Rick Leach, Clarence Mabry and worked with Billy Jean King. I was a pro for 35 years

Very cool experience! What a list of names, and some real personalities.
