Your favorite listening chair?

Since my only current audio system is the one at the desk in my home office, my listening chair is a plain oak office side chair from sometime in the mid 20th century -- no arms, no tilt or swivel, nothing fancy, and the finish is worn and discolored. I find it exceptionally comfortable to use; I sit in it for about eight hours every working day, and whenever I'm using my office computer setup.

It has the word "REGISTRAR" stenciled on the bottom of the seat. My father probably picked it up for free or very cheap from one of the places where he was teaching when they were getting rid of old chairs: Salem State College, Tufts University, or Boston State College.

As you say, every castle needs a throne. Here is my vote!

A man's home is his castle.

By extension,

A man's chair is his throne.

What's your favorite listening chair?
I'm not interested in fancy-pansy Ottoman chairs that cost +10k, but instead chairs that feel extremely comfortable that you can sit in for hours at a time or even fall asleep in!

I am a chair snob and have literally tried hundreds of chairs ( though far less recliners)The Eames chair and ottoman that you linked is in my top 5 for comfort. The other 4 are plastic chairs because they fit my dimensions

A quality Eames chair reproduction/ripoff is available at 1/23 of the original price. The original ( Herman Miller version) does come in different sizes)

A comfortable chair that you can sleep in will need to be :
1. cushioned for comfort.
2. Recline enough to get rem sleep
3. Have feet raised when reclined so you don’t get Deep Vein Thrombosis ( like flying)
4. And fit you. (My mother is 5”1. I am 6”1 we find each other’s furniture very uncomfortable when we visit )

For rem sleep ( quality sleep) that you don’t feel “hungover” after ,there is a minimum reclineation angle. Think business class vs economy/ coach ( cant find reference but rem sleep decline after either 19 or 29 degrees from flat I vaguely recall)( prob 29 deg)

In summary it depends upon:
Lower leg measurement
Upper leg measurement
Torso length measurement
Shoulder width
Head- neck- trunk angle for head/ neck support
Weight
Taste
Budget

Try a:
stressless recliner
Lazy-boy recliner
Electric recliner.
All these are commonly found 2nd hand and at good prices due to people moving into rest homes / funeral homes.

Since I haven't been able to justify the cost of an Eames Lounge Chair (~$5500), one of these is my solution. A classic Pollock desk chair, circa 1963, mine has this same orange fabric and is in beautiful shape. I got mine on CL for $50 some years back, which was a find. They routinely go for $250 - 400 in good condition. Good for active listening rather than "lounging".

I have the said fancy pansy ones (though from Back When they weren't so screechingly pricey):
HM Eames chair and ottoman,
The three seat large softpad sofa in walnut (pretty rare, I gather)
LCW lounge chair (plywood),
alum group chair (1),
DCM side (dining) chairs and
DSX (fiberglass, orginals from my parents in the 50s!).
Sold the Sofa Compact as it tried to kill your back if you did anything but sit up perferctly straight in it!

All the others are reasonably comfortable for short periods.
I use the chair/ottoman as my main LC, but did add sheepskin to protect from cats and make it a bit more comfortable and less slippery - but the regular size one is really too small for 6+ footers and can get pretty uncomfortable. (The large one was not availble when I bought).
But a good friend who is Ray Eame's size (under 5') loves the chair/ottoman and has laid claim to it eventually.

Weirdly, after all that 'investment' I still find the extra big Lazy Boy recliner by far the most comfortable of them all!!
But it's 'not allowed' in the main listenting room with all the fancy pancy stuff ;)
