Your ears

In the loop our ears are the most important link. How do you treat them?

Some years a go (after watching a few youtube vids) I took a syringe to my ears and yes, a lot of stuff came out.

A little reading up revealed to me that is was probably the q-tips I was using. And yes, after having stopped using them my ears stay surprisingly open.

If you use them, don't

Smallest thing I put into my ears is a my little finger with a soapy washcloth wrapped around it, in the shower.

Amazing, there is active testing of the first drug that could possibly restore hearing lost due to excessive noise exposure. Check out the locations where the quadruple-blind study study is being recruited for right now (November, 2019)...

For general interest about integral part of the ears related to hearing shown down below are scanning microscope images of a mammal's (rodent) auditory hair cells; 1st picture an arrayed grouping and 2nd picture is a single representative hair cell within the group.

Fortunately my ears don't seem to produce excessive wax. After showering I use 2 cotton swabs held together to dry the ear canal opening by laterally pressing the double swab tips against the ear canals' inner walls, doing so without poking too far inward. Rarely over the years I've experienced bothersome inner ear itching and found it quickly resolved by a dab of over-the-counter % concentration of clotrimazole in generic cream formulation on a cotton swab tip swirled into the ear canal, and then to spread the cream coating the entirety of that inner canal press/wriggle/pinch the exterior base of the ear.

One of my favorite iem is an Etymotic which is used as deep insertion with triple flange tips. Periodically little bits of translucent dry ear wax ends up on the 3 flanges which I easily clear off. There's nothing leading me to think wax impaction is a problem for me since both my audiologist and ear-nose-throat doctor confirmed my inner ear canals look fine.
