It's geared toward marketing spending. So how many hours and eyeballs/earholes spent doing a thing rather than how much people are spending on the thing. So for people looking to buy advertising they can get a sense of how many people they can reach in a given medium or service.

I used to really like Pandora while it was in the Australian market. I even had a client built into to my Marantz NA-7004 tuner/streamer thing. I used to like the discovery algorithm better than Spotify, plus it could tell you why you liked a song by describing it's characteristics.
