Received this in a marketing email from Yamaha today...

MSRP: $3999.95 US

I know it's a "network" receiver, but no balanced inputs at that price? Ouch.
No grounded power? Maybe an expert can explain why that's not an issue, but it seems odd to me.
The double square logo near the power indicator means it's double insulated and thus does not need an earth connection.

That Yamaha USA website is a cookie infested hellhole btw. 90% needs to be "opted-out" by clicking on the individual companies.
I know I shouldn't expect a website made for the American market to comply with European GDPR rules but damn.

Works for me, no is preselected and all you have to do is push the purple button.

However, to opt-out of third party cookies, you have to accept third party cookies. W-what?

Noticed, you play your ATC speakers with a Yamaha A-S1200, is that amp. powerful enough for that?
I say yes. Loudest i play is + some dB on the bass knob and maybe 10 o'clock on the volume, which feels very loud, certainly to much to hear yourself think or have a conversation except nodding and pointing.

The amp is rated 90W/8R and 180W/4R per channel, and i have a regular room (50m²).
The speakers could stomach more, so i tested an even beefier Hypex amp on them, but there was no audible difference i could detect, so i sent it back.

I have no reason to believe that this device is really bad.
Anyone going for it?

That is a serious price! That knocks me out of an upgrade. I have the R-N303 Network receiver its connected to the Topping E70 via RCA.

The R-N2000A is clearly for people that like the shiny and nicer things, value isn't the most important factor. The R-N303 targets an audience that looks at high value components and isn't happy paying 100€ for a volume knob, just because it's nicely machined.

Finally, if you look at the functions and specs:
current price for AS1200/2200 range
a good USB DAC would easily cost 400-500 bucks
room correction
streaming (I like Musiccast, but that is me)
preout (kind of rarity for Yamaha !)
............ a promo at 2500 bucks would be interesting :)

I know it does not fit all people scenarios, but in my scenario it is only price that is wrong.
Cause on medium term I consider a Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 for streaming/ Room Perfect to use it with preout => Yamaha AS1100 as power.
The Lyngdorf is 2000 euro here so...

A good summary.

I recently heard a quote attributed to David Crosby: "I like things that are better than they need to be."
I can relate to that. I really appreciate fine craftsmanship, exquisite design, and high performance. When I can afford it, I aim for items that are better than they need to be.

It is very difficult to have all three and not also have high cost.

I've had mine for 5 days now. I'm very pleased. Excellent build and materials, sounds great. It has all of the features and functionality I wanted in one box.
Welcome to this place of insanity and useless spending.

Do you have pics? So far i have seen only the marketing pictures, nothing in the wild.

Here is my heap of old aluminium, got the entire series complete, took me almost two years because i'm stingy and bought all of it used:

Did you try YPAO, any effects?
Is YPAO RSC different from the previous generations, say Rn803D?

Yes, I used YPAO during initial set up. I've not toggled it off yet. My girlfriend, who could careless about audio stated, "Wow! You have surround sound!"

I was too busy with family stuff this weekend to really dig into it. This week I will.

I have Forte 4s. It's an excellent pairing!

I'm really pleased with the outstanding build quality.

I played around with the loudness dial and YPAO this afternoon, gotta love WFH, both are very cool. While loudness let's one tweak the sound, YPAO seems to nail it. It's interesting to switch from YPAO to pure direct too. With my Forte 4s YPAO rolls the top off just a bit and fills the mids.

REM, Black Crowes and Bob Mould haven't sounded better.

The only "disappointment" is the phono. My Rega MM is all over the Yamaha stage. That said it isn't bad, only the Rega is much better.

I used the variable loudness like the engineers at Yamaha intended, to keep the sound rich at night. You set everything up for the loudest you usually hear, then turn it down with the loudness at night. It becomes your volume knob.

It's a very solid acrylic.

Thanks for the tip on the loudness dial. I'll try it tonight.

My previous receiver was a cheap Denon DRA800H. Cheap in that it is inexpensive, but an excellent value as it is packed with modern network features and traditional receiver functionality.

The Yamaha has all of the same features, sans 5 HDMI inputs, but at a much higher level of build quality, components and sound.
