I realize the ability to compensate for the perceived loss of bass and treble at low volumes is quite important given the amount of time I use my amp at low volumes.
Solutions for that would seem to be either the "loudness function" on Yamaha amps or the "dynamic volume" types of functions on AVRs.
As to AVRs, I used to have a Marantz 1508 AVR and didn't love it. Nowadays I would probably get a Denon model with the extended Audyssey app version, assuming Denon is still the better AVR brand.
Yamaha stereo models have been widely discussed here, I would go with the A-S 501 or 701. I could store EQ settings post correction, done with a UMik, if any, in either Roon or my WiiM streamer. None offer dynamic loudness controls AFAIK.
It's hard to assess how both solutions compare in the real world. I did not have good speakers when I was using the Marantz AVR, which had the most basic version of Audyssey at the time. I now have Revel M16s. I'm tempted to go with a Yamaha A-S due to the performance, quality, simplicity, durability, classic looks etc. With the Loudness function, would I be missing much vs a "proper" dynamic volume function ?
