Yamaha CD-S303 Review (CD Player)

I just ordered the five-disc version of this, the CD-S603, refurb from Accesories4Less for $329. Wish me luck. They also have the six-disc Onkyo for $199 but I am a sucker for Yamaha and like the thicker tray and lack of front LED.

I am going to use this as a transport via Toslink into a MiniDSP 2x4 HD. I had been using a Fiio DM13 but it is not bit perfect and is a pain to switch from Toslink to headphone mode when I unplug it from the system.

Good luck with it. Hopefully you get some solid years of service out if it. Changers are super convenient but can be unreliable long term compared to a single disc. I may have just had bad luck though on the couple of Sonys I owned.

I’ve also gone through a few Sony changers with relatively short lifespans. My NAD changer lasted a full decade before showing problems. Now have had an Integra (Onkyo) changer for about 3 years.

In contrast, my single disc Cambridge Azur 540C has been faultless in operation for nearly 20 years. I use it as transport with an external DAC.
