Hi,
I am currently looking for a good performance with a 2nd hand price tag in general. I have a pair Wharfedales 12.2 and the very popular and very capable WiiM Pro Plus as my main source. I currently use a pair of Aiyima AO7 Max in monoblock but as good as they are, and they are, I need a little more power. The current market has a few options and I am focusing on the Yamaha AS-500 due to budget and the AS-301 again 2nd hand to remain in budget. There is also one other option I have and that is the Tangent Power Ampster mk2 which has received some good reviews and has a good reserve of power for 12.2s. Any experience with anyone of these choices would be appreciated as well as some advice in whether buying the AS-500 is worth it given the age of the amplifier. Thanks ASR.

The A07 Max in Mono mode (48V PSU) can output well above 200W before distortion becomes noticeable, whereas Wharfedale specify 120W as the maximum recommended output power for the Diamond 12.2

This suggests that output power may not be the limiting factor and your issue may lie elsewhere.

I suggest investigating some more and making absolutely sure that you're indeed maxing out the Aiyima Amp, before you buy a new Amp.

The AS-500 has the most power output and it has the record out selector which is a very nice feature for some stuff. If me and the price is good I would buy the AS-500.

I am using Aiyima 36v 6a power supply. The volume is at 3.00 o’clock on both amps and the WiiM at 80%. Realistically I would say about 35watt. It’s fine though, I don’t want to go with the 48v. Thankyou for your reply.

It’s certainly high on the list as is the SMSL A0300 but this is not about features more about power and sound quality. The WiiM will take care of all the bells and whistles.

Thanks, I bought the SMSL AO300 today. Still interested in the Tangent Power Ampster mk2 though...

We are trying to discourage these random video links without some kind of description as to what you want to highlight, or that boils it down so we don't have to go watch it to have a reply.

No need to promote nonsense.

No it can't! It did 166 W @ 4 Ohms and went into protection.
@Schlippwhip68 the A-S/R-S 700 are best buy second hand. Will give you 200/235 W @ 4 Ohms max sustainable/peek. A-S 500 will give you about the same output but it won't be so clean over ⅔ of it. A-S 700 will be more expensive second hand then R-S 700 but also younger. Main difference is that R-S has analog radio tuner which A-S doesn't have.

What are you taking about?

The A07 Max put out 166W at 0.007% THD+N and went on to output 226W at 1% with no protection in sight:

FYI, this is what an Amp going into protection looks like:

The A07 Max had none of that, neither on Amir's bench, nor in his practical listening tests.

OK it clips hard over 166 W @4 Ohms with 48 V 5A power supply and would quickly go into protection or burn if you try to overdrive it. Also performance degrades and it's grim over 5 KHz (fals under 75 dB SINAD) and loses one third of output to 15 KHz. Diamonds are hard to drive over Fs @ 120 Hz up to 700 Hz (4 Ohms and sharp angle phase shift), ironically at 5 KHz impedance is as declared 8 Ohms and falls to about 6 @ 15 KHz. Again possible problematic area is 1 to 5 KHz at 8 Ohms and second harmonics where those amps could struggle to give enough power even with more capable power supplys and certainly with stock ones.
