Hi all, I would like some advice,

I own Yamaha A6A amp with Kef series R5 Meta as my mains and a BK monolith sub

i have been listening to direct mode for awhile and now really wanted to start and use my sub for the lower end and wanted to know,

1. When you calibrate the amp for a 5.1.4 setup using Ypao and change the sound profile to straight will it still use the calibrated setting just for the two stereo pair ?
2. If using straight would it be best to disable the rest of the speakers and just enable 2 given better driven to the mains
3. Would it also be best to put the speakers back to large instead of small
4. Would it be best to set the cross over to 40hz or lower instead of 80hz for my Kef r5 metas
5. Would it be best to save the 5.1.4 setup to a scene 1 and then when I change all the settings save it to scene 2 for music.
6. How would playing music from airplay ipad to the amp be ? would it be better to invest In a Apple TV and stream from that device or airplay to the Apple TV from the iPad device or would a separate music media steamer be better for higher res ?

Thanks for any suggestions or help.

I do have a mini dsp mic umik 1 but have not relay had a chance to use it but wanted to get some sort of basic setup before I dive into that.

Thanks for any help

If using Straight mode of two channel music, the Fronts will output sound and a signal determined by the crossover setting will be sent to the subwoofer. The YPAO settings are still in place using Straight mode but would be disabled using Pure Direct and a signal would not be output to the subwoofer playing two channel signals.

If setting the Front speakers to Large and playing two channel signals, you will not get a signal to the subwoofer unless you enable Extra Bass. It is better to cross the Fronts for more control of the signals copied to the Sub.

I do not believe you would be able to hear a difference in sound in a blind test comparing Airplay to a directly connected Apple TV 4K playing music. MusicCast supports multiple streaming services though Apple Music is not of them. However, Dolby Atmos will not be supported when streaming it from an iOS device directly to the A6A. It will be supported streaming from Apple Music from an iOS device to an Apple TV 4K or just using the Apple TV 4K itself to stream the music.

With the Yamaha connected to a network, MusicCast supports hi-res playback from various streaming services and the app is one of the best out there.

1. make sure to use YPAO "natural" setting.
2. Small speakers in YPAO
3. if you have a sub, higher the cross - better (I think). 100Hz or higher? You can always try your 40Hz and compare. Your KEFs and amp will have trouble going low, that's why you have sub for 20-150Hz range. You will need some bass heavy music, which is not to everyone taste. Or a war thunder movie.
4. As for "straight" and other names they have - I quickly got tired of remembering what they mean. Pure is for no-processing, and again, I didn't notice big difference.

Thanks all.

I thought I was supposed to be better to use a sub as a filler meaning when the mains fall off from lower frequencies the sub takes over and fills in the lower end where the mains can not do ? I would have thought the Kef series r meta would go low before they fall off and using something like 80hz or above would make it feel to boomy ? As I suppose it how well the sub handles music.
