Worst movie ever?

Not if it's on most movie's newer than that.
I liked Avatar (3D) at an Imax, as well as Oz the Great and Powerful (3D), also at an IMAX.
And I liked every movie that I have ever seen better than Johnny Be Good.
So, unless there are worse ones than that (which I am glad that I have not seen), then that is my comment.

Original Avatar would've been fun on IMAX. I did see it in the cinema I think. The second one was a bit over-sentimental (or I was over the novelty, I'm not sure it was worse than the first in that respect) so I didn't continue. Oz the Great and Powerful is in my collection, looked somewhat appealing (Sam Raimi can do a decent job and the book from Frank Baum is likely a good basis) so I expect I'll get to it.

*I like going to actual cinemas with people, but I also use Apple Vision Pro which does a very good very large screen virtual cinema (and 3D) for viewing anything in one's Apple library.

Yeah, that was quite bad. Fortunately I saw it at someone's home.

Shark movies really are a good genre starting place for "worst movies" ... :)

Otoh I thought The Shallows was quite decent (surprising as I don't go for Collet-Serra's films usually).

This Turkish movie (known as Turkish Star Wars) cannot be beaten in the worst movie ever category. It's official and has fan clubs:

Bunch of comments here of the sort "movies today are crap", "they don't make them like they used to".
Much like music, you have to search for it.
Classic directors like Scorsese or Eastwood are still working. Younger directors like Paul Thomas Anderson, Rysuke Hamaguchi, Celine Sciamma doing great stuff.
Sure, at the multiplex you're likely to get the prefabricated franchises favored by investors.

I will give it credit for knowing what it wanted to be and for being exactly that, as well as for being advertised as what it was.

You could give exactly the same credit to Les Patterson Saves the World.

I guess if there is actually an audience that likes that and it has excellent production value and delivers exactly what they want, then sure. If it just tried to be bad and was bad then no. Fury Road didn't set out to be bad, it was action that was done extremely well with a tiny bit of character development thrown in.

My point is there are all sorts of movies and if one is a great example of its genre but just isn't a genre that you like then don't watch it.

For example, we tried watching Furiosa, thinking it would be similar to the Fury Road because its advertisements looked very similar. Instead it had some action, a lot of slow parts and some that felt like they were a spoof done by The Kids In The Hall.

Err, you said:

"I will give it credit for knowing what it wanted to be and for being exactly that, as well as for being advertised as what it was"

Your statement gives zero specifics as to "production value" or any other qualifying criteria. You think Fury Road is bonza. Righto. I don't care. But I am amused that you can't articulate a case for the films alleged awesomeness that isn't meaningless piffle.

It seems to me, to be a bit to easy to just call a movie the worst ever, without a proper reason to why, and state ones personal taste and maybe personal story to why a given genre is particularly disgusting, scary or lovely.
I personally am not particularly fond of horror movies, since I find the characters to often be quite silly in their choices, and the stories lacking in comparison to the actual amount of gore and constant jump-scare.
Alien stood out to me though, Aliens too. I think they are well balanced and greatly smash pretentious crap like Prometheus and Covenant to it's knees.
I'd much rather watch T2, Rambo first blood, RoboCop, Die hard, first 3 Indy's, again and again.
Yes I know there's these factual details ripping all movies to pieces.... But it's not a documentary... It's entertainment.
Watching different proffesors on YouTube give their take on movie history... Can be a lot of fun... But please skip the idea of thinking of movies as realistic. We all know that falling 15m, getting smacked in the head, crashing vehicles, getting shot and so forth... Is a bad thing... And you extremely rarely just get up and run, right after such incidents.
I mostly watch movies as a visual representation of my fantasies or funny ideas .. not things I would ever do in real life.
Worst movie in my view, should be packed with straight up bad acting and incoherent stories, where you as an amateur easily can call BS on several aspects of the movie.
Few movies mentioned so far, are in my view contenders as worst movie ever, but rather just personal taste and maybe not good or great movies. Definitely not the worst though.
Hercules in New York with Arnold Schwarzenegger, might be on my list of worst movies. Bad acting, editing, pacing and overall story.... It's just silly and that's about it.
But I still love Arnold though . He's great fun and have his absolute own charm... In moderation though :D

I do find i have much less patience with a movie as far as giving it a chance to hold my attention. When I was younger I'd usually stick out and see if the movie improved, likly watch it unless truly terrible. Now, if it does not grab my attention as something worth the time, I'm out within 20-30 mins generally. Last night I tried to watch The Creator. I really wanted to like this movie as it got generally positive reviews and a decent Scfi movie on a Thurs night with some good red wine was just what I wanted. Within 30 mins or so it was clear to me while not a terrible movie, generic plot, much of it taken from other movies, and too many stupid eye rolling moments that ended my suspension of disbelief to enjoy it. I will say the visuals were excellent, acting was solid, it's not a terrible movie, just not a movie I was willing to give 2 hours of my time. I'm finding that's a common theme for me these days. I'm almost 60, aint got time to waste! PS, I started S3 of the animated series Invincible which is actually quite good.

To add to this thread, a truly terrible movie that I didn't last 20 mins into, which got mostly bad reviews, was Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon. Wow was that garbage and supposedly part II was even worse.

The Drinkers review is pretty spot on:
