So the first starship troopers (don't see any of the other ones ) is good ,
What made Starship Troopers 1 good was the 90s B movie hotties in it. Denise Richards, Dina Meyers, and Amy Smart smoked on the screen and the nude shots even better. ;)

Worst, bad and the ugly? depends on your point of views?

I think I start with the best and leave the worst ones for the cat litter box. lol

Star Trek the Motion Picture (1979) theatical Dolby Stereo mix on Laserdisc letterbox edition. For late 70's sure has a good decent mix of sound effects, soft effect hard louder effects to dialog track and Jerry Goldsmith score that is wow, wow in DOLBY STEREO® MP 4.2.4 matrix sure goes down low here I can give it some THX/TAP and push it below 20Hz the Enterprise warp factors on the low end.

I wonder if the Nicholson film you saw is "The Shooting" which he played in and also produced (or maybe directed). He was later in a couple westerns and both bad. "Goin South" may have been the one you saw as he was incredibly bad in that film.

In the same year he was making the Shooting, he had TV guess appearances in Dr. Kildaire, the Andy Griffith Show, and the Guns of Will Sonnett. I've seen the Griffith episode.

Here is a clip from Dr. Kildaire which also has William Shatner in it. Shatner was originally offered the Dr. Kildaire role, but turned it down.
Wow. So many early Nicholson westerns to choose from. I have to assume that whichever I saw was the worst, because there just isn't any room beneath that.

Everyone of the following movies is worth seeing but almost no one I know will watch them. In fact, although all are worthy movies, most people would run out of the theater screaming rather than watch any of them, and especially The Comedy. Therefore, they are unfavored and unpopular or outright banned, to say the least. So I challenge you: The Comedy by Rick Alverson (USA); 4 (Russian dark comedy, and be forewarned that Russian dark comedy is not ha ha funny); A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (USA, but really an Iranian vampire movie THAT YOU HAVE TO SEE); Let the Right One In (Swedish vampire movie); The Third Murder (for the thoughtful...there is an important insight there); Tetsuo the Iron Man (1989, Japanese, bizarre for its own sake); the original British TV serial that is quite long....The Singing Detective; and last, Dogtooth (Greek by Yargos Lanthimos). Note Russian movie 4 has a numeric title. Most dishonest movie ever made: The Godfather. It promotes the stupidity that one can be a psychopath, sociopath hood and thug and at the same time be a worthy family man. That is bullshit. Thugs and hoods and gangsters shit on their families on many ways just like they treat everyone else. The Godfather is male porn in that to many males there is great excitement/arousal in the violence which to many men is more thrilling and compelling than sexual arousal.

I even bought a coy of this (can't play it anymore). The sequel was not so good.

Movies I avoid, anything by Gaspar Noé especially "Irreversible". To quote Ebert "a movie so violent and cruel that most people will find it unwatchable."

Enter The Void by Gaspar Noé is one of my favourite films. I don't really enjoy many films though - they make me sleepy. I remember reading that whenever Stravinsky heard a piece of music he'd ask himself "did that piece of music need to be written?". I wouldn't think that many movies would pass that test.

I bet he said that about pieces of music that bring me joy.

Have you ever seen Aguirre?

Beat me to it, I second that. Herzog himself was selling a complete DVD set of all his works which I purchased years go. Don't miss Nosferatu, Kinski and Herzog are magic. Popol Vuh's music is perfect in both films.

I highly recommend the movie "Crank: High Voltage". I watched it this past weekend because I liked the first one. The second one is on a different level. It's a horrible movie in some ways, but it's genius, disturbing, and entertaining at the same time. I've never seen anything quite like it. Fast paced, some gory violence, and many scenes where it makes fun of itself.

this forum needs a dislike/thumb down button

yeah that's a very vague statement. I could see not liking Jim Carrey in something like Ace Ventura, but Truman Show? Truman Show is a masterpiece.
