World Cup 2026 Thread

I just learned that the Morocco-France game is gonna be refereed by 5 argentinians. That is VERY shady, expect really shady stuff.
Forgive me but after the France-Paraguay quagmire, I got reasons to get paranoïd.

They are quite cheap, don't worry. Send some of Bokassa's diamonds and you are done.

It's a shame but I think you need a text analysis here.
What I mean is that there won't be a strict respect of the rule with those 5 referees.
Have you watched France Paraguay ? Check the internet for the best compilations of f*cked up stuff where the rule was nowhere to be found.

It's all the same in pro sports, too much money at stake and it is entertainment. No one is policing it. There is no legal requirement for a fair outcome, only revenue and entertainment. That point was made and you said inventing conspiracy. Without trying to be rude, haven't recent events shown that to everyone? It's true in most high money televised sports.

I like this thread and watching the World Cup.

Random surreal footy related tune. Number two.

If Brasil win it again...

I don't know what more I can say. You don't seem stupid so I must conclude you're refusing to understand what I wrote.

Switzerland in - Colombia out

Penalty shootouts. Frankly after watching the game I thought they were all gonna miss their penalty.

I am genuinely sad that you feel confused. A head of state using their influence on a sporting event. You think that's ok because everything worked out ok... Jesus wept
The USMNT team had zero to do with that. The political backlash should not remotely touch them. In fact I venture it distracted and weakened the USA team.
It's hard for me to not attach some political comments to this, but I refrain because that's not the discussion here.

Sorry but it was only controversial in the US. The average european has watched 1000+ games and played 100+, and nobody I know would tell you it's not an obvious red card.
You got to have a strange relationship with reality to say this isn't a red card

The problem here is many are confusing two separate issues and hence confuse:

1. "I don't like the law on ankle contact. "
with
2. "The referee misapplied the law."

I personally answer 1 with "yes" but 2 with "no".

I watched the Argentina–Egypt match, and Egypt had a perfectly legal second goal disallowed.

After 60 years of watching football starting on black and white TVs  I have little faith in FIFA. Under Infantino's openly corrupt questionable leadership, I wouldn't be surprised if those five Argentine referees found a way to help Morocco against the France team. In a match that's likely to be decided by the smallest margins, one or two controversial decisions can make all the difference.

No offence to the Moroccan team they've been playing excellent football and certainly don't need any favours

Any fun being had here? More serious and argumentative than... an audiophile forum?

Ho ho ho. Just having some fun.

I'd root for France if it wasn't for Morocco being the only African team left, and the only clear underdog other than Norway. I'll 100% root for France in the next game if it beats Morocco though.

Don't worry, half the French team are African :)

My workmate from Cameroon thinks that Africa is a hidden football superpower, at least on par with South America and Europe. The reason it isn't is because the developmental programs aren't there because governments are so dysfunctional.
