People and press pulls these out from the dusted drawers for comparison and whatabouts for generations. God's hand, Neymar lawnroller and what not. This one will stick.

Come on England!

“The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA’s decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time).”

The RBFA notes that FIFA used Article 27 of the disciplinary code to rule Baolgun eligible for the USA-Belgium match, but they say that ruling directly contradicts Article 66.4 of that same code and Article 10.5 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations.

In addition to citing the technical reasons that it disagrees with the ruling, the RBFA wraps up by saying it strongly disagrees with this decision and is looking into its options to protest it.

“In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options.”
Playing with a quarantined player constitues loss, and that is how many will picture this. It is really really bad both for Football and the US team. Really bad.

It's already forgotten

You are seriously overreacting.
Makes no difference whatsoever to me, thus it's not really my reaction. But it is how it is seen and the story is growing in the press. Certainly a major talking point.

2nd half tends to be way harder than 1st at that altitude. Worn down faster, and recovery significantly slower. You'll never know, but advantage from altitude could still bring Mexico this one.

Whoopz. 1-3 and 10/11.

Less running for the brits, Tuchel parking the bus?

Is is also really bad for Portugal and the game that FIFA suspended Ronaldo's suspension? This is business as usual so why all the drama and accusations?

Whataboutism, but yeah, the Ronaldo case is bad for football indeed. The drama was caused by the Whitehouse messages. Without that, it would have been seen like the Ronaldo case - a bad call and favourism by FIFA. The Whitehouse messages makes it a different ballgame. And a different drama. If he plays, the game is tainted.

The same article has been invoked and that's fair, but the white house bragging about making the call makes it very political.

Fair indeed, and answered. But the bad decision pertaining Ronaldo shouldn't be used to justify another bad decision. Guess Quansah will return the red after the game too... Wait a minute, covering the mouth is what gets you a red to keep.... Just illustrating some of the problems this is causing.

Congrats England, it might be a good one for Norway. A tough game, longer recovery... But England will be in the semis...

England in - Mexico out

England fought like lions against a good mexican team. Reduced to 10 for half an hour, playing Mexico in Mexico city, that's a well deserved win. Great drama, an intense game.

I can't say I saw that one coming. Mexico losing to England at Azteca is very, very surprising.

Bellingham's a flipping monster though, 2 goals in 2 minutes is crazy.

Maybe it's a temporary suspension -- for that game only. A kind gesture aimed at helping the host country move onto the next round ;) . Fifa showing its cool sportsmanship!o_O
