Wiring Speakon and Banana plugs

Anyone have any experience or opinion on these banana plugs:

I successfully connected my (in-wall) speakers to the binding posts on the wall plate with bare wire/ferrules no problem. However, attempting to get bare wire/ferrules into the crowded binding posts on the back of my AVR has proven to be an exercise in frustration. It can be done, but it's not something I want to have to do very often. So I'm considering using banana plugs at least for the AVR connection. These seem like an interesting choice and the price is right (plus I have enough points at Crutchfield to pay for them). I am curious if the mechanism used to secure the wire to the plug is robust and has relatively low contact resistance, though.

No experience with Speaker Snap.

These are much more expensive, but I used them in a vacation home near the water.
They are gold plated pure copper and heat shrink seals them nicely.

Did you mean to include a link in there?

Don't solder-tin stranded wire to be used in a compression (screw) fitting. With time and temperature, it will slowly cold-flow and the connection will loosen. It's not permitted in industrial or military equipment. That's the reason for ferrules
FWIW, never had any problem with using tinned wire ends and the 5-way binding posts on my passive speakers. Does anyone know if the cold flow issue is any different with lead-free solder vs. traditional 60/40 stuff?

Is there really an advantage to wire thicker than 12 gauge?

It's a similar principle to Wago's 4mm test connectors - a reputable supplier. I've not seen the SpeakerSNAP ones so can't comment on implementation, which is where the problems may be. If done well there's nothing wrong with either the cage clamp connection, or the 4mm end. The devil is in the detail though. On that style of 4mm end I've seen cheap ones where the sprung part has too little clearance to make reliable contact with the pin. This often goes hand in hand with poor quality plating.
