Wiring of power supply to home sec system

Im deactivating the home security system on a recently purchased house (US). I unplugged the power supply ( see attached picture) Not sure what the red wire coming from the supply is for. It goes back in under the outlet cover. The green wire goes into the ceiling so i assume that is the system power. My initial plan is to kill the power to the outlet at the breaker box in garage and snip the green wire and disconnect red wire from outlet under the cover. I dont like the power supply box just hanging there. Am i missing something here? I know this is not audio related but I thought it would be ok to ask here

Looks dodgy as hell. Assume nothing - who knows where those may be going and what else they may have done. The fact that you need to ask suggests you should get a professional to look at it.

Yeah my plan is to deenergize the outlet and take off the cover. Not sure if i will get to it today

Actually dirt/dust. Good question though. I just took care of it. I deenergized the supply breaker to the outlet. Verified deenergized by plugging in nightlight that went out when i flipped the breaker. Also used multimeter to ensure everything was dead. Snipped the green wire and the red wire which just went into wall next to outlet. Taped both off with electrical tape and reenergized breaker. Everything appears to be in order.
