Wireless audio transmission question

I'm trying to find the best solution to wirelessly connect my turntable to my Naim Uniti Atom in another room with the least possible conversions and best possible quality.

Currently I'm using the 1Mii (1 TX + 1 RX) analog in on the transmitter and optical out to my naim. that way eliminating 1 conversion and using te Naim DAC on the receiver site (the analog in is digitized in the Naim). The DAC in the 1Mii transmitter is (very) pour quality. Would it make sence to add a minidsp pocketadc in the chain so the transmitter and receiver stay entirely in the digital domain?

Only if the internal ADC's noise and distortion is bad enough that it is not masked by the inherent noise of Vinyl, and survives the encoding->wireless transmission->decoding.

In other words, highly unlikely that a PocketADC would be worthwhile.

In case you still end up buying one, do yourself the favor and record the 1Mii RX unit's Optical output using a Hifime UR23, once with the PocketADC and once with the built-in ADC.

Load the recordings into Pkane Deltawave and you can both analyze the difference graphically, and do an unbiased ABX test direcly in Deltawave.

If instead you buy and accept upgrades like this at face value, then that sets you up for more and more expensive purchases down the line with no actual ROI.

Your unity atom has bluetooth in it.

When I did this I just used a bluetooth transmitter to send directly to a DAC with bluetooth input. Sound was (as far as I was able to descern) totally transparent - even with an inexpensive transmitter.

Vinyl as a medium is high noise and high distortion compared with even average ADC DAC devices. It is pretty easy to deal with without adding audible artefacts.

Thanks for all the quick reply's. Bluetooth isn't een option for me. Te connection is less stable then with a wifi transmitter. the turntable does noticably sound better when connect directly to the atom so there is a degradation going on in the path. wheter this is due tot bad adc/dac in the transmitter/receiver or is inherently due to wireless transmission is my question... but thats something tot try out with the recommendations of StaticV3

Brutal answer time.
- Phono is low-level signal and needs much more careful handling to avoid noise, compared with say, line-level.
- Phono needs the RIAA correction filter done somewhere. You can't just use a non-phono input on the amp.
- Bluetooth is crap, because of distance/signal strength issues leading to dropouts - even if a cat walks past. Not to mention compatibility of the various codecs and possible lossy compression (the latter won't matter for vinyl, as you starting with a poor medium anyway).

Given that your turntable is mains powered, you could deploy a phono pre-amp right beside it. It will do RIAA and boost to line level. There may be one that also has a wireless transmitter built-in (I have no idea) but if not, then that RIAA corrected and boosted signal can be transmitted digitally to a receiver on an Aux port on your main amp.

I don't know how good this would be be for vinyl, but I can say I use a couple of ADC->DAC digital links (5Ghz in my case) with my guitar rig.... My guitar links to amp or mixer (etc) with a Lekato TX/RX 5.8Ghz set, using 24bit/48kHz & <6ms Latency. I also run a Lekato IEM wireless monitor system to listen to the output from my amp or mixer (basically like the Lekato guitar link, but in the opposite direction). It's very good - the guitar link especially. I'm not saying this is suitable for HiFi, just that there might be decent radio products out there that are good enough for hooking between a phono pre-amp and you main amp.

If easier, I think a WiiM Pro Plus can digitize a turntable's output and stream it via DLNA. Hopefully, someone else can confirm.

In either case, you'd need a phono pre-amp inserted after the turntable.

Sounds OK, but you still have to implement RIAA filter, and I'm not sure that DLNA per se will stream live data though. But software can probably be found that can do it.

Phono pre-amp will take care of that, or take the output from "Tape Out" or "Pre-amp Out" on whatever device the turntable is connected to.

I disagree. A bad ADC-transmission setup can generate very audible -and annoying to me- hiss when music is not playing. Probably not caused by the conversion itself, maybe grounding prego knows what, but if you have such issue, it can be very worthy trying a different setup, whatever that means depending on the case.
To OP: I use a sound blaster card connected to a raspberry pi transmitting vía wifi with excellent results, but a couple seconds latency which for me is even beneficial but might not be for you

Average != bad.

Step 1, get your RIAA phono preamp'd signal where you want it.

Step 2 upgrade 1Mii to SVS SoundPath Tri-Band

But likely no SQ improvement.

Wiim ecosystem adds a lot of value not just stellar transparency

I use a WiiM Pro hooked up to a Schiit Mani 2, works great.
