I stumbled across an application this evening that may be useful for those of you who wish to stream directly from a Windows computer to a Chromecast as if the operating system had native support. By the way, I'm aware that some Windows based media players do support Chromecast, but many don't.

Below is a screenshot of the application running on my own PC: That's Desktop Audio Streamer in the upper portion, which is the name of the application, streaming whatever is being played by MusicBee (it doesn't support Chromecast) in the lower portion, to my own Chromecast Audio, which is labeled Opium Den Cast.

Thanks a lot - amazingly useful! Unsupported desktop app streaming to 5 devices at once.
You made my day @BillG

Edit: a few hiccups in some rooms, but very promising.

I've been using this for awhile, works much better than the acidhax app on github that does that same thing.

You could try mkchromecast for something similar on Mac and linux. Also streams to Sonos devices - perhaps a way to use the older ones that are dropping out of support?

This is great! I'm gonna throw this on my laptop. Thanks for sharing!!!

This might also be relevant to the folks in this thread: For those who want the other way around (Chromecast from a device to a PC), check out this (not free) application: https://www.airserver.com/WindowsDesktop

I use it with a NUC connected to a DAC (which is connected to speakers)! No Chromecast Audio needed for that set-up!

just to be sure I'm not missing anything, you have to cast your whole phone to it, and it will just play whatever sound is playing? I installed both this and reflector 3 and they aren't showing as targets to cast to except for screen casting

I was hoping for a solution to tell Google home to play music on my htpc which is then connected to my sound system

I could use a ccaudio which I have but not I'd either have to figure out how to play it through the htpc, some form of a source switch, or avr which I don't currently use or even need

Hello, I have installed it but the CCA does not detect me, does anyone know what I can do?

One cool (or uncool) thing I noticed: whatever EQ you apply to the music on the computer also gets applied to the chromecasts' output. About a 5-10s lag for new settings to take effect but it does apply.

A double EQ?

I suppose so assuming you are using the tone controls on the CCA.

Nice finds... is there any lossless guarantee there?
