Wilson Alexia V - 2023 Stereophile Speaker of the Year ???

LOL … I have been there for a long time now, just making a point. Actually, the first time I touched a physical copy of Stereophile in probably 20 years was at AXPONA this past April when they were giving them away for free, and even then it made me feel all funny inside :p
I once tried to broaden my horizons by looking at audio magazines, but with obvious exceptions like Voice Coil my brain just refused to cooperate.

Historically there are the two contradictory sides of Stereophile, a couple of objective/technical oriented authors and on the other side people like Fremer or Austin.

If you want objectively good recommendations just go to the editor choices and look for John Atkinson and Kal Rubinson who - surprise, surprise - are the only who are also active members here in ASR.

They need an amp, how about this one named Amp of the Year by Stereophile?:

Audio Note Meishu 300B Tonmeister Phono Integrated Amplifier
($15,740; reviewed by Ken Micallef in Vol.46 No.2 review)

Measured by John Atkinson. So, $15,740 to get 1 watt with 1% distortion::oops:

Haha, I'm coming out as an old 300B fan. Many ASR members are probably not familiar with such things, but have an opinion. :)

You pay extra for that!

We can tell that no Stereophile readers have come to this thread, because no one has yet ̶p̶o̶s̶t̶e̶d̶ copy-pasted: "YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEM."

"I throw money off of bridges! Look at me!"

The more costly something is the less likely it be will a scam, definitely.
We just have it in for the costly stuff because we're such paupers.

I have tested a DIY 300B tube amp, see attached pictures. Not built by me. I sold it on behalf of the man who built it (you are not allowed to sell self-built tube amps in Sweden). I had it at home for a while. Tried running a couple of compression drivers together with it. It worked well,
with compression drivers of 108 dB sensitivity. ;):)

If the conditions are there, you can use amps with very low power, but you'll be so tied up in the choice of speakers, I must say.:rolleyes:

Yeah, when you need a whole 20mW, a SET is ok.

The components don't look bad at first glance. Hammond mains transformer and choke and Lundahl OPTs. But I can't really tell. I have spent decades refining 300B and 211 SET circuits and enjoy listening to them. No problem with the listening volume.

Being cynical I wonder if they have the stuff designed and built in some cheap hell-hole, then import it and sell it for big bucks.
You have been to Croydon?
Keith

I thought their special material was supposed to help with that stuff in the decay plot (whether audible or not). So it's all just for show?
How is this possible given the measurements? Can’t wrap my brain around it
