Wilson Alexia V - 2023 Stereophile Speaker of the Year ???

Actually it gets worse, amazingly enough, the Raidho TD38 made the finalist list …

Stereophile are simply rewarding Wilson for the sheer amount of ‘trickle down’ technology between this current speaker and the model they introduced two weeks ago.

Only $117,000. Not sure what you expect when you get bargain basement stuff.

Couch cushions money I expect for those that would actually make such a purchase, and this clientele I expect has no clue about measurements, nor do they care. They purchase what the HiFi boutique tells them they need based upon the budget they provided.

Reading graphs is harder...
Remember that "extension" has a very flexible meaning to hi-fi reviewers. If the cone moves at all, they're satisfied.

Although I have to wonder how they f-ed up a port so bad.

That, and some brands have the cachet. Think how many people come here thinking B&W is top notch.

Could it because they don’t actually employ any engineers?

I disagree. It's just a very low tuning at 21 Hz and as a result, the efficiency is quite low. But down low, you also have lots of room gain, so it will compensate a bit of the efficiency deficiency (see what I did there ;) ). The in-room measurements shows the result quite well. There is a 8dB drop from 40 to 25 Hz, but probably that is a room mode. Overal, when using DSP room correction this kind of tuning is actually quite welcome to get a decent extension and good power handling.

Being cynical I wonder if they have the stuff designed and built in some cheap hell-hole, then import it and sell it for big bucks.

I honestly hope you're right.

Looks like Jason Serinus owns a set of Alexia V’s, so he must have been smitten :p I’d imagine he got favorable accommodation pricing, and that didn’t hurt Wilson’s chances in the running either.

Not to disagree with the points you made, but the cynical part of me thinks they shoved the tuning down so the low extension looks better.

No, no, I am sure he paid full retail to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest

Largest profit margin product. The answer is abundantly obvious. It’s the Money Watson. ;)
I well know what’s happening here, follow the money. Again, it’s just done so blatant. I guess this is what’s really rubbing me the wrong way. I can’t even pick up a Stereophile anymore without feeling all dirty inside

That may be the beginning of wisdom.

Got lots -o-bass init!!! All mid bass thud by the looks of it...

That pic of the old boy (so am I, so I can say that!) standing between a pair of these things shoved tight into the corners, shirt open and hands in his pockets just about sums it up for me really.

I used to like the Witt years ago - they seem to have got worse over the years as well as far more expensive...

LOL … I have been there for a long time now, just making a point. Actually, the first time I touched a physical copy of Stereophile in probably 20 years was at AXPONA this past April when they were giving them away for free, and even then it made me feel all funny inside :p
