Somebody in the Neighborhood posted this photo they took of a Sandhill Crane around one of the retention ponds.
They are big birds, some nearly four feet tall, all but unafraid of humans. You can walk right up to them, and they get a little nervous, but hope you might feed them at the same time.
At the Soaring Club, there are two that wait outside the gate in the morning, then walk in looking for Mike, who will feed them peanuts. They crunch open the peanuts with the tip of their bill,

These like to walk around the yard and stick their beak in the grass and eat bugs.
