Wiim withdraw Apple Airplay casting from all their products

I guess it depends on what you mean as a closed book. I requested to have my Wiim Pro whitelisted and they wouldn't do it. Based on conservations elsewhere, it seems like they have completely backpedaled on the whitelisting and are giving refunds instead.

I hope that they refund me as AirPlay casting was the only reason I purchased the Wiim Pro.

Michael
My experience also. Whitelisted at first, then last week an update was pushed to my WiiM amp (I was at pains not to update myself) that removed airplay, then they refused to re-whitelist when contacted claiming that firmware has now been ‘deleted’. Would have been more than happy to not be bothered with ongoing updates as evetything was working just fine. Not so now- thanks WiiM for hobbling your own product.

You don't really think this is fun for Wiim do you? There has to be a licensing dispute in play if they are "Deleting" previous firmware builds. Not a fun situation for Wiim. They are trying to do the best they can in a difficult situation where no complaints about this feature existed previously. Copyright issues can be harsh.

I’m sure it isn’t and that’s a weird assumption btw. Correct, no complaints on the issue that didn’t previously exist. I’d be more sympathetic if they had left me to my own devices (literally!) whilst they sort out whatever is going on, and were more transparent.

I don't use my Wiim Pro Plus in this way, so I'm not directly affected, but I would guess the lack of transparency is part of whatever negotiations are taking place with Apple.

Roon appears to have whiteroomed Airplay, harkening back to the days when PC-DOS was cloned.

For me the Wiim app no longer shows as Airplay, but instead it has “Wi-Fi” as an input and “Wiim Cast” as an output that both essentially function like airplay. My phone recognizes the Wiim with Bluetooth turned off, and the Wiim can also pair with my Sonos speaker in the kitchen as an output, also without Bluetooth. I don’t know if this is because I was whitelisted. Just sharing my situation if the information is useful to anyone.

Same here, I received a second hand WiiM mini and an update was installed today. The device still plays via Airplay.

That’s interesting - please post a screenshot.

They also would not give me a refund because I did not purchase on Amazon and suggested I contact the seller for something I purchased in January, lol.

Absolute clown show.

Exactly, it's not like you can opt out of firmware updates, it is automatic.

The issue is using the WiiM to send a stream of audio to other airplay devices, not receive an AirPlay stream
Interesting, I’ll have to read more of this thread because I can’t envision what you’d connect to a WiiM as a source. Had no idea people did that.

I've understood the AirPlay casting use case as phono->WiiM-->[airplay] Speakers or digital source->optical in WiiM-->[airplay] Speakers.

Such as to an Airplay enabled speaker; to an Apple TV (useful for radio round the house for example); with a higher quality stream to an AirPort Express and headphones or speaker (either audio jack or optical out from that). Used to be versatile, convenient, easy, all via the phone app.
