Link is dead.

$299 sounds reasonable and makes me second guess buying the Fosi V3 monos

The situation is complicated with the digital input etc....
there are many different scenarios...

but the solution if consider just the qualitative aspect of the amplification at small price "TI"...we have the A5 3e audio...

(The analog input is one subject and the potentiometer type ana or just gain of tension... )

I had pointed out early on that it could be for reasons of development etc savings...a simplified pro amp, but inflated in voltage/power... ??
let's see for analog input (to be monitored) and volume management ?
;-)

but not class2 like amp pro ;-) ( problem with ana input ....?)
WiiM Vibelink Amp vs. WiiM Amp Pro:
  • All different case work and outer dimensions
  • Different volume knob operation (with fixed min. and max. position on the Vibelink)
  • Different inputs, different outputs, different speaker terminals
  • No streaming module on the Vibelink
  • Different placement of inputs and outputs on the back and
  • (as you mentioned) different max. output voltage and power
... sorry, but I don't see any PCB or component in the Vibelink Amp stemming directly from the Amp Pro. It's "simplified" only in the sense of reduced features, but by no means a simplified version.

I'm also willing to bet you, that the analog input is not digitized. :) I don't know for sure, of course, but I'm willing to take that risk.

At 299$, I honestly wonder what is not to like. The 3E Audio A5 offers similar objective performance, less power, no DAC and digital inputs, no 12V trigger, no internal PSU and a not-so-appealing design for 60$ less. However, it got a lot of appreciation on the forum. We may have expected something else to be paired with the Ultra but IMHO it's a extremely competitive product.

Looks like no remote:

That remote seen at Bristol must be the second-gen remote mentioned in the WiiM Home App remote pairing screen for WiiM Ultra.

So if there is no remote included, then to use an Ultra as the preamp, I would use the analog outputs on the Ultra and use the variable output on the Ultra with the VIbelink volume at max.

The volume dial is for all the people using the touch screen on the WiiM Ultra, they must be skinnier than I with all that walking!

Or are they less skinny from all that sitting right in front of their gear?

no problemo for me about the input in analogic and not numerised ...
really ;-)

(In any case, it is necessary to clarify and resolve the situation encountered on this entry seen in this review.)

I've gone ahead and (pre)ordered a unit for audition.

If it sounds good enough to replace my SMSL trio (D400 Pro & dual PA200s), I can resell those and end up making money on this whole affair, as well as reducing clutter and complexity. And if it doesn't, I can simply return it.

The digital input/integrated DAC is key here because I use an external room correction module with digital outputs only, so I cannot normally utilize the WiiM Ultra's internal DAC. And no, the WiiM room correction does not come even close to the results of my separate room correction unit (DSPeaker Anti-Mode X2D--selected because their room correction is simultaneously excellent performing and as easy to use as it can possibly get, yet the X2D avoids the pitfalls of the poorly-performing analog output stage on the older Anti-Mode 2.0).

not digitized the ana entry ..ok ok ;-)

but remains the fact that the difficulties problems encountered for the review on this one are to be """dug"""....
;-)

I'm very sure I don't have to tell you that you need ~10 times the wattage for twice the loudness.
Or you can use speakers with 6 or 10 dB higher efficiency (depending on the doubling of the physical sound pressure level or the psychoacoustically perceived volume doubling) as well as the corresponding diaphragm area and equivalent displacement volume.
In my opinion, the better way.

Would you say that the improvement could be audible compared to the normal WiiM Amp?

Room is pretty small and the listening distance is about 1,50 m. I'm using a pair of KEF LS50 Meta.
So the scenario would be WiiM Vibelink + WiiM Ultra vs. WiiM Amp.

The only potentially audible improvement I think would be the lack of load dependency for the Vibelink versus the Amp. Of course, you can also just get the Amp Pro if that's a concern.
