Ouais. Je suis revenu de vacances il y a environ une semaine et je dois encore terminer mes tests.
Bon retour de vacances !

Une question, permet-il via la sortie HDMI de faire du streaming multicanal depuis Roon ?

The ultra doesn’t have an HDMI output, just HDMI ARC for audio from your tv into the Ultra.

Wiim write : Both products support Dolby Audio and will downmix 5.1 audio to 2.1 when using a single device. We are developing a feature to output satellite channels to separate speakers, effectively creating a 4.1 system when the devices are grouped together.

I'm not sure I understand, but it's positive!;)
You would think that's the same development required to output the center channel. I guess they are focusing on the desktop audience here, for whom a 4.1 might make sense

You mean, like the DMP- A6?
The HDMI ARC is input, not output. I am not sure if any kind of multichannel content is supported.
I use a 4k bluray player as CD transport. It has two HDMI outputs, one of which is audio only. Would this work with the Wiim HDMI input? My player otherwise only has coaxial out and apparently the Wiim only has optical in.

No, it won't work. HDMI ARC is using different pins for audio than regular HDMI audio. If you connected the player to an ARC enabled TV you could use the TVs ARC output, but that's probably not what you are after. Also, TVs usually resample everything they put out through ARC.

That explains why this didn't work for me with a Sony ubp-x800 over HDMI 2.

I don't know how good the phono preamp in the Ultra is. If you already have a good phono preamp, I would connect that to the Wiim RCA inputs instead of the phono in. Other than that, yes, the Wiim Ultra works great as a preamp, dac, streamer and headphone amp.
Its very good. And I'm comparing it presently to the phono's in my McIntosh C11 and MX110z preamps. And I've listened to a lot of phono's in over 50 years of doing audio. For the money the Ultra is an amazing unit.

I can't see how you would improve the sound with an external DAC, to be honest.
I was thinking about grabbing an external DAC...but since I upgraded the amp (Emotiva BasX A2)..shit sounds amazing. So not in a rush to invest in a DAC. They're not cheap.

I did notice something peculiar, or maybe it's normal. But when I stream Tidal from the Wiim app EVERYTHING comes out in 16 bit and about 800+ kbps playback wether I'm playing Master or High.
But.. from the Tidal app...Master playback is 4000- 6000+ kbps 24bit playback. To my ears these tracks have a little more air in-between instruments.
So I just Tidal Connect from now on..

Have you setting quality to max under account on the tidal page in the WiiM home app? There shouldn’t be a difference between the WiiM home app and tidal connect

The picture I posted was using the Wiim app to play Tidal, not Tidal Connect.

So, for my Technics SL1200 and a MM cartridge you assume I will be fine with the Wiim? Currently I am using the phono stage in my Denon PMA1700.

I’m watching these discussions, thinking about a Ultra as a phono stage with benefits.
