hello. I use wiim ultra with an ifi nano black dac. I use a phone (samsung s23fe), and tidal premium. but when changing songs, it takes approx. 5 seconds until the streamer displays the new song, as well as the sound. It does this via wifi as well as via rj45 internet. Can you help me in this regard? Thank you

It's on the pro as well. Not 5 seconds though. This doesn"t happen in a play list/ queue. It's a Tidal thing I think, large files, buffering maybe, but idk.

I am considering getting a Wiim Ultra, primarily as a streamer. I am currently replacing an old Denon AVR I am using as a phono/amplifier for my turntable.

My original plan was a Schiit Mani + Sys with Fosi v3 mono blocks, then adding a steamer and toggling the input with the Sys as needed.

Once I started looking at steamers I came across the Wiim Ultra which could reduce 3 pieces of equipment down to one, for only marginally more cost.

Would there be a significant difference/benefit in using the phono in the Wiim Ultra vs a Schiit Mani or vice versa? Has anyone had the opportunity to do any side by side testing/listening?

One other advantage of the Ultra is that you maintain the ability to use a sub with full bass management, something you lose on almost every other non-AVR set up.

That feature makes the Ultra better than the Eversolo DMP-A6. Another is HDMI ARC input. I'm sure some like the phono input too.

Agreed. So versatile. Wish it had a USB input but a Topping D10s easily solves that and makes it a powerful desktop 2.1 pre-amp.

I use it with an amp and 2.1 speakers, a full headphone stack, each with a PEQ. Inputs change between TV, tidal connect, computer and I can even adjust the gain on each.

There's nothing wrong with this deconstructed approach and your components. I didn't add up the total cost but it'll be amazing audio for what you pay.

At the other end of the budget spectrum you can get good AVRs that do these things and more but they are big. A used NAD D 3020 looks interesting by spec, no idea how it performs. Various used Yamaha are in this range. Some have streamers.

The ultra packs a lot in a small package for $300ish.

Interesting that you ‘think’ it sounds better than the Pro Plus using digital out. Have you tried using rca out of the WiiM(s) and comparing the DACs?
It makes no sense to connect the "RCA out" of the Wiim Pro + and the Wiim Ultra to the "analog in" of the Sabaj A30a. Being the Sabaj a full-digital amplifier, using an analog connection means that the Wiim digital stream is converted to analog by the DAC of the Wiim streamer, than the analog signal has to be converted back to digital by the ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) of the Sabaj in order to be amplified.

Sharing my experience: I went for the Wiim Ultra to replace my Minidsp DDRC-24 and Dirac and I’m very happy that I did.

The user experience is just so much better than my previous setup. I’m using it as the cental hub for my TV/Movies sound, music streamer/media player, crossover for sub. Only the convenience of the HDMI arc, 12v trigger to my power amp was already worth the upgrade. Everything goes on/off together so a lot less hassle.

With the minidsp/dirac I had to plugin in my laptop and it was always very tedious to change and test settings such as EQ, crossover and phase. With the Wiim everything is done through the app and in real time from your listening position. Amazing.

I have Ultra and 2.1 system. Also Umik-1.
Can somebody give me instructions how I can measure subwoofer delay using REW and Ultra?
My REW knowledge is basic at all.

Has anyone noticed that the PEQ interface behaves really weirdly in L/R channels mode? I’ve been trying to save copies of previous EQ tables to modify them and when you switch between them one of the channels seems to get lost. It doesn’t sound that the information would be actually lost but from the interface it definitely does. The same happens when you switch from L/R mode to Stereo or to another input tab. Just would want to know whether anyone else is experiencing the same, or is it some kind of corruption in the memory cache. Still waiting approval to post on the Wiim Forum.
For anyone interested and facing the same problem I discussed about the issue on Wiim Forum and a solution was found:

Hi all,

I am looking for a way to drive my Neumann KH120 speakers (XLR input) on the one side. And on the other to connect my TV and my turntable - more or less a Pre-Amp / DAC. I stumbled upon the WiiM Ultra, which would do Phono, HDMI Arc and I could connect it via RCA-XLR cables to the speakers, right? Would you say the WiiM Ultra is a worthwhile source for the Neumanns?

Thx!

I don't know how good the phono preamp in the Ultra is. If you already have a good phono preamp, I would connect that to the Wiim RCA inputs instead of the phono in. Other than that, yes, the Wiim Ultra works great as a preamp, dac, streamer and headphone amp.

I "solved" the lack of a USB C input to get bitperfect sound from my Linux PC. I was depending on the HDMI output which resamples everything to 48khz.

I had a Schiit Modi+ that I wasn't using anywhere. Connected the USB C from my PC to the Modi+ and then used the RCA outs to go to the Wiim Ultra RCA ins.

It sounds great. Of course I can't tell any difference between the audio this way vs just using the HDMI output, but at least my Modi+ is being used again. :)

This also gives me an extra Coax and Optical input to the Wiim if I need it.

I've compared the WiiM phono stage to my Musical Fidelity V90 LPS and preferred the one in the WiiM. Totally subjective, but the WiiM just felt... cleaner. Maybe more highs... hard to say exactly what I was hearing, but I preferred it.

Turntable is an upgraded Planar 3 with an Ortofon 2M Blue.
