WiiM Ultra

there is clearly a certain blackout around the wiim ultra, machines circulating for a while, with practically no serious feedback, just few merchandising placards....
but the first measures have just been released on the wiim forum by onlyoneme , (and I hope so , just from a pre-series-beta )
It seems to me that we will have to reasonably wait...

we only come across one on the wiim forum...
(and its pcb ver 2 corresponds to the machines that were circulating among beta testers... who in fact have owned them for a while)

Amazon.com states that over 500+ have been sold in the last month, with current orders having delivery times of a week or two. Just because purchasers don’t announce their ownership here or on the WiiM forums doesn’t mean the device isn’t “on the market”

this is also the place where a lot of people concentrate on pre-ordering etc... and but as you say "sold is not delivered"... the tendency to rush to the purchase and to talk about freshly received gifts..and very very present..on wiim forum.. you will agree
as I have already said, it is not a medicine..and therefore the subject of the delay is not very serious...

;-)))
we will see when the essentials really start to be delivered..what pcb version..etc..

;-)

only one question bothers me a little...you and the few beta testers not announced on the wiim forum...when did you receive your machines? ;-)

Here’s the Darko article on it

Thank you. I'll read thru these articles, I need to better understand this. Seems the Apple Music waters are muddy in regards to streaming as lossless goes. Several people have posted that android OS is has far better support for hires file playback, particularly for wireless streaming. WiiM has stated that Airplay certification is "still pending" so hopefully they did a bang up job on its implementation, and Apple quickly gives them their approval.

Apple has an app dedicated to classical music with Apple Music.
Also Spatial Audio feature, although very limited at the moment.
I'll look for the dedicated classical music app. I've auditioned Spatial Audio on my airpods and my Onkyo AVR supports Apple Airplay, so I've been able to enjoy Spatial Audio on my home theater system and some of it's decent. It's actually pretty amazing what they were able to pull off with Spatial Audio on their airpods.

If you're using Android, you may have better luck using Chromecast, apart from it not supporting gapless playback which if you listen to classical may be a significant drawback. Also, it's reported the Apple Music Classical app doesn't support casting at all.

Even though I don't use it, Apple Music support on other devices seems to be an issue unless you go for something like Eversolo or FiiO who appear to use the standard Apple Music app albeit on a modded version of Android.

48 pages on a product that is still not on the market!
I've been looking to pre-order one on Crutchfield, but their expected date is August 12th. Since the Ultra page on Amazon keeps having a shifting shipping date, when it changed to July 22 - Aug 6th, I decided to order one Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a shipping notice yesterday, and it's getting delivered today (NE Ohio).

I just got a shipping notice for my Wiim Ultra that I ordered on Amazon. It is supposed to be delivered today. When I ordered it, they gave a date in August, then it changed to July 25, then it changed to today!

Edit: And it arrived; 12 hours after it shipped. I will not get a chance to play with it until after work.

I setup my Ultra and can't get it to work. Issues:

- No option to use the promised USB output. So I set it up to use optical for now.
- Not Roon Ready yet.
- At first it did not show up at all in Roon. After a reboot, it shows as an AirPlay2 device, which is fine for now. Except that when I play something, Roon stops after about a second.
- Does not show up as an AirPlay device on my Mac or my iPhone. (My AppleTV and AirPlay capable speaker both do.)

In short, it looks nice, but I can't play anything.

Checking the Wiim Forum and they changed the spec. It no longer supports AirPlay! That means there is no way for Roon users to use it until it is certified, assuming it is.

There are 2 reviews on Amazon now.

WiiM's German website still lists AirPlay compatibility:

Could get dicey if someone reports false advertising to the authorities.

Somebody at WiiM should probably check that out...
