WiiM Ultra

To be precise: the CD standard is 44.1 kHz. Sonos does what it claims. And it downsamples Amazon Music Unlimited’s 192/24 to 48/24 (on its more recent products).
are you referring to the speakers or components.
if it is the speakers, well they may not be resolving enough to be any benefit from cd quality or higher.
If your referring to the components such as port, amp or the older connect devices - they cap at 16bit and yes 48khz.
the port is no different then the older connect in this regard.
and since Sonos is the only hifi streamer that does Apple Music natively, you are left with airplay. ( this certainly isn't cd quality or higher).

maybe someone can confirm Apple Music via the Sonos app on port/connect connected to a dac for the stream bit depth and frequency.
it may only be lossy AAC compressed.

Yes, it is. If not, then measurements do not make sense. They make sense for me thus everything which affects measurement results and make difference, matters.
Of course the measurements matter.

They matter because of what they tell us about what we are measuring - which is that what we are measuring doesn't matter.

:p

System problem - not a component problem. If you have it - easily solved using Toslink as the interface.
Or if you are persistently close minded and not prepared to accept a jitter laden Toslink signal unless it comes from some megabucks golden product then simply send the signal over USB through a $40 optical isolator - or cheaper if you only need normal bit rates.

what methods are available to stream amazon music unlimited to the Wiim. I don't think they have amazon connect software like tidal and Sonos have.
and which are lossless.

OMG can you guys cut it out already! @onlyoneme sure this debate could apply to the ultra, as it could to a large number of devices... but it's not specific to the ultra. Please kindly create a new thread elsewhere where you can debate the presence of your belly button with others that will entertain you so those of us that are interested in relevant information specific to this product don't have to sift through your pontification.

Yes, they do. Once you register your WiiM with Alexa, it will look exactly like an Echo device to any other Echo device or the Amazon Music app. Voice control from the WiiM Remote or any Echo device is possible.

so its a phone or tablet app. how about via windows/Mac?
and has lossless or truncated bit depth been measured from a dac ?

Paging @BDWoody @AdamG @Jimbob54

A whole load of BS (including my own - sorry) destined for the "Are measurements...." thread, or similar...

Amazon music does have a “connect” mechanism- it’s called AlexaCast and is available from the Amazon Music app on iOS or Android. Casting however is not available from the PC /Mac Amazon Music desktop apps to any target.

You can also play Amazon Music from the WiiM Home app on iOS/android, and it is bit perfect up to 24/192 to the WiiM device whether you use the WiiM Home app, Amazon Music app or Alexa.

Edit: note that AlexaCast may not be available in all regions even if Amazon Music and Alexa are supported there.

how about chromecast on the Wiim . does it support 24/192. any other methods possible apart from this?

The Wiim App includes Amazon Music HD. You can select anything available on Amazon Music to play on the Wiim. Playing an album now that Amazon shows as "Ultra HD". In the app, it shows it is 24/44.1. My external DAC shows is it receiving 44.1.

Ultra HD just means it’s 24 bit - the sample rate can go from 44.1kHz up to 192kHz. 16bit tracks, usually just 44.1kHz, are labelled as HD

44.1khz is HD. I don't seek out music with useless sampling rates above 44.1. I will listen to them, but all they are doing is wasting a bit of bandwidth without improving anything.

The Wiim streamers can receive and output all those sampling rates with no issues.

I was merely pointing out what Amazon mean by HD and UHD which is not directly rated to sample rate but bit depth viz. “HD tracks have a bit depth of 16-bits, a minimum sample rate of 44.1 kHz (also referred to as CD-quality), and an average bitrate of 850 kbps. Ultra HD tracks have a bit depth of 24 bits, sample rates ranging from 44.1 kHz up to 192 kHz, and an average bitrate of 3730 kbps.”

I also note above in comment #910 that WiiM devices support up to 24/192 bit perfect.

I just watched this
You mean like these guys:

In fairness they actually tested one but they do struggle to say exactly how it isn't as good as more expensive streamers when hooked up to their high dollar McIntosh system using an external Chord DAC. I'm not sure exactly how WIIMs bits are different but something to do with "soundstage" yadda yadda.

I haven't seen anyone else who has actually tested a production model yet.
This is audio advices comment in the comments. This is rubbish isn't like other poster mentioned bit perfect is bit perfect isn't?

"Streamers will certainly affect the sound, as it all depends on how they process the source. Using an external DAC, we think it would be hard to hear a difference between any WiiM products. But if you connect that same DAC to a higher-end streamer from HiFi Rose, the clocks and other internals will process the source differently and directly affect the sound to make it sound "better."

How do you connect to the external DAC, perhaps via USB...? Then no improvement in the clock, as the DAC's is being used.

As well as the video posted above, one member of the WiiM forums has received their Amazon order.

You’d have to guess that reviewers either have their units already, or will be receiving them imminently.
