WiiM Ultra

Wiim developers take note...

Something like this was suggested in the topic on the Wiim Forum where they collected suggestions for the Ultra. If you want to make feature suggestions that will actually be heard, you need to make them over there.

I'm guessing the issue is the cost of the additional hardware that would be needed for video encoding and output. It would not be the same hardware as what is used to support the built-in screen.

Could one do the following:
Turntable -> Wiim Ultra -> Sub
Wiim Ultra -> Hypex NC252MP -> Kef R11 ?

Sure, why not! Actually thinking about the same pre/amp combo for my Elac Solano bookshelfs. I also plan to connect my SVS sub

What are these room correction features, how does it compare to the Wiim pro with 10 band eq, and does it allow crossover slopes with the sub.
also, it’s going to need a microphone, so how and what will it connect to.

What are these room correction features
The WiiM App measures your in-room response, calculates 10 Parametric EQ filters to correct the response, then writes those filters to the WiiM.

More info can be found here:

Room correction uses the default EQ capabilities. Only difference is that the filter values are calculated automatically.

and does it allow crossover slopes with the sub.
Every WiiM with Sub out (Amp, Amp Pro, Ultra) supports, or will support setting crossover frequency, phase, level, and delay.

Customizing the crossover slope isn't supported yet, but I wouldn't be suprised if it gets added later on.

also, it’s going to need a microphone, so how and what will it connect to.
You can use your iPhone's or iPad's built-in microphone, or an external microphone connected via USB to the WiiM App.

WiiM are also evaluating whether it is feasible to use the WiiM Remote's built-in mic for in-room response measurements.

There is a dot next to rca output on the back of the Wiim ultra in the pictures.
could this be the inbuilt microphone unlabelled?
if so the ultra would need to be in the listening position for sometime to get the measurements.
perhaps it can store the needed filters, and then placed wherever needed.

Well spotted!

Although that would be a pretty goofy measurement process, and would require longer RCA cables than many people might have.

There is an inbuilt mic which is labelled as so on the Wiim pro and pro plus.
not sure about its capability for room correction measurements.

is the one on the ultra improved.

The in built mics are just for measuring latency and adjusting for multi room sync.

So basically how do you connect it to active studio monitors ?
Here are a few possibilities:

WiiM RCA->Monitor RCA
WiiM RCA->Monitor XLR
WiiM RCA->Monitor TRS

WiiM Toslink->Monitor Toslink
WiiM Toslink->Toslink to Coax converter->Monitor Coax
WiiM Toslink->Toslink to Coax converter->Monitor AES3
WiiM Toslink->Toslink to AES3 converter->Monitor AES3

WiiM Toslink->External DAC->Monitor XLR
WiiM Toslink->External DAC->Monitor TRS

It all depends on what inputs your studio monitors have and what kind of signal voltage they need.

Sorry I should have mentioned that it's about XLR but thanks

The graphics hardware for an LCD display is typically built into the display module itself. You don't sent it video signals, you send it data telling it what to draw on the display.

You can drop the Toslink to Coax converter since the WiiM Ultra has Coax output.

Just to add to this, Wiim have said they will add support for usb-c microphones in the near future. They haven't specified which.
