WiiM Ultra

It's certainly meant to, but only if your phone is connected to the same network somehow. I haven't tried it.

Good morning.

I ask you for information on the Wiim Ultra Streamer:

Can it work correctly if connected to the network via an Eterneth cable? I do not have the possibility of Wi-Fi but only of a wired network.

In particular, does the application on the smartphone work correctly? I see that the device is provided with an input with a network cable.

I have to listen to other free internet radios.

Thank you very much and best regards.
Alessio.
As indicated by Emlin if you can connect your phone to the same network as the Ultra, the smartphone app should be able to control the Ultra. If not there are potential workarounds for getting the Ultra setup and for using the Ultra.

Does anyone else’s Ultra start streaming by itself?

I use mine with Roon and often find it silently playing (as downstream equipment is turned off). At first I thought it was me just being forgetful but it’s definitely not. I also noticed when I turned on my DAC/amp yesterday it began streaming immediately without me doing anything. Not a big deal, I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same? I’m using the USB connection out to an RME DAC, in case it’s relevant.

Thanks

My Wiim Streamer works well with a wired ethernet connection realising over 500Mb/sec in my particular installation. From experience I think anything over 100-200 Mb/sec will not fall victim to excess buffering.

All things being equal, wired is preferable to wifi.

I think the Wiim app on phones or iPADs is very good, and updated often, although I have to parse what they write sometimes in their release notes.

I'm confused. I assume that Chromecast should always be bit-perfect up to its maximum sample rate and bit depth. Anyone know details behind this "enhancement"?

Any downside to maxing out the pre-gain setting? certain media(netflix) is extremely low volume with the midrange even nearing max on my Genelec G3 then the jump scares make me fall off the chair.

I stream Roon to my Ultra connected to signal-sensing powered speakers, so I'd know if Ultra was spontaneously playing music. I don't have this problem at all. Are you sure you set Roon Radio to "Off" at the bottom of your play queue?

Thanks. It happens even when I’ve been playing radio via Roon and have stopped the stream.

When it is 'auto streaming' is it via Roon or another source? My Pro will sometimes be playing away to itself via Alexacast and I'm assuming one of my Echo Dots misheard someone.

Thanks, no it seems to be just Roon as far as I can tell.

Someone connected to your Bluetooth?

Thanks, fairy unlikely given where I live, plus as I say, it seems to just spontaneously carry on from where I had left off. Be it a radio station via Roon or listening to an album.

I would argue that the Ultra is a more potent device WRT sound quality.

I have both the WiiM and the Eversolo right now, and I’m still undecided on which one to keep. I’m leaning more toward the WiiM because I feel it delivers better instrument separation and detail in my system. It’s been a tough choice, though, for aesthetic reasons, because honestly, visually, the Eversolo is much more attractive — it’s very sexy.

Also, the fact that "the Wiim will automatically wake your system via trigger when you start playing something from any source, and sleep if nothing is played for a while, but with the Eversolo you have to manually turn it off and on" is pushing me more toward the WiiM, as it makes using the system so much easier.

There will be no difference in the sound. Both are audibly transparent. Aesthetics are up to you.

Why? It measures slightly (though inaudibly) worse than the eversolo.

I would argue they will be utterly identical audibly, and any buying choice should be on features, aesthetics and price.

Unless you are referring to the built in DSP/room correction - in which case, I agree. But I'd call that a feature. :D

The Wiim Ultra wins for including a subwoofer out, bass settings and headphone amp.

Non of which are about absolute sound quality - which is the statement I was questioning.
