WiiM Ultra

So I have app version 2.11.5.24xxxxx and I don't see any of that control (quickly checks I'm posting in the right thread this time....) I can only see one slider for the Sub crossover f
I'm sure you also see level, phase and sync settings. :P

Same here, though. WiiM Home App 2.11.5.240906 and no sign of "advanced subwoofer options". Luckily :D

But wait, there's a new version on Google Play ...

Oh yes, of course!

I'm not entirely sure what the sync function does? I've run it a few times and it's set to 3ms. Is that latency between left and right?

There are two completely different settings in the WiiM Home App carrying the term "sync" in there name.

In the subwoofer setup it's syncing subwoofer & speakers. This is used to compensate for different distances to the MLP between sub and mains (and to compensate for the delay in DSP driven subs). No measurements here, just configuration.

The other sync function (is it in output setup or audio setup?) attempts to measure the delay between the input signal and the speaker output signal. The result is used when linking two or more WiiM streamers into a group. I'm not exactly sure how they use that data (recorded with the mic build into the case).

Anyone tried synching several? I'd love to replace my remaining Sonos gear but I use the group function a lot and it works well.

Ah yes, that would be it.

Is there any reason I can't use a y-splitter for matching active subs and do 2.2 with the ultra?

You can use y-splitters, but will lose the ability to high-pass the main speakers for cleaner playback at high SPL.

Thank you. Why is that? I could still add via PEQ, no?

If you use an analog splitter cable to connect both the subs and mains to the same analog Line out, then applying high-pass EQ to said Line out will render the subwoofer useless.

Edit:
Ooh, I totally misunderstood you. My bad!

Yes, you can connect multiple subwoofers to the WiiM Ultra's Sub out via splitter cables.

Got it. The second sub is pretty essential I think and I have the budget but I'd hate to lose all the DSP. However in this case the Mains would be via toslink to a DAC/amp and I would use the splitter on the Wiim Ultra subwoofer output.

Will that preserve the DSP options?

Yes, but you would only be able to apply EQ to the subs as a single channel i.e. same filters applied to both subs.

Understood, thank you. Aside from room modes that shouldn't matter as the sub channel is mono, yes? I do have some DSP on the subs (SVS) if I needed it. I doubt I would be relying on Wiim room calibration.

It shouldn't be an issue, no. Any EQ for the sub(s) is better than none and if you have DSP on the subs, even better.

I've been referring to this scenario...

If RC doesn't work well for you down to below 20 Hz (which might well be due to limitations of the mic), why don't you simply configure RC to only wor from 40 Hz or 45 Hz on?

Sub management and external DAC go along fine except for USB out. There's no limitation through optical and coaxial.
I was assuming, perhaps wrongly, that WiiM has taken mike anomalies into consideration. I have an iPhone app for measuring the sub and main sound levels and perhaps this app is a different take on the iPhone mike. That app is what I use to set the sub and mains at the same level before I do room correction (In the past - I've gotten similar results to my miniDSP calibrated mike).

At any rate, later today, I'm going to compare the WiiM (iPhone mike) and REW (miniDSP mike) results and hopefully they match. I'll also use my Radio Shack dB meter to set the main & sub volume at 75dB

Funny...I was briefly thinking of replacing my 2+1 stereo system with a couple of Sonos Era 300's and a sub but eventually got the Ultra. I have a Sonos Arc + sub + Era 300's on my TV and they are wonderful. I have lots of Sonos speakers throughout the house that never get used. I should sell them.

Yeah that's basically what I'm doing. I dont even use the Sonos wireless features anymore! I have a bunch of Amps and ports that run my house systems wired. It's really just legacy infrastructure now and Wiim should be able to do it. I'd basically make $150 per trade in if I sell them on eBay and buy new Wiim amps.

I'm just worried about sync. I have a large room with multiple ceiling speakers and timing issues would be a real drag. I will lose my wireless Sonos sub.

It's not strictly 2.2, since you cannot have stereo subs from a monophonic output, of course. But you are aware of that, so that's OK.

You'll have to restrict yourself to a rather low crossover frequency, but if your main target is bass extension and reduction of room modes, not relieving the mains from bass duties that's also not a real issue.

Also, there might be a latency issue? Though I'm guessing at such long wave lengths in a typical domestic living room these are going to be inaudible. I've been thinking about my system, would it make sense to go for a second sub of similar performance (Wharfedale Diamond SW150) that has no output of any use below 35Hz or change it to someting with more output. I used to own a monstrous great JL audio sub which would have worked great in my current system, but I moved it on some years ago.

I have a Wiim Ultra setup and a Wiim Pro Plus setup in two adjoining rooms. I can stand in the doorway when they are playing sync'd, and move my head between them, and the difference I hear is the difference between the speakers tonality / room response. I can't hear any delay or jarring overlap. Wiim seems to have done their homework on this one, I was impressed.

Both are hard-wired ethernet setups.
