WiiM Ultra

Wouldn't a high power high sensitivity system create more dB per volt? How would the ultra know and compensate for that?

I'm probably asking a dumb question.
You would normally match the gain/SPL between sub and L/R using the gain knob on the Sub, to get an aprox. flat frequency response to the best possible with manual adjustment.

If you are then using any form of room EQ, that should do the last bit of evening out the frequency response by matching to the target curve. (ignoring room effects)

After that, then any volume control should adjust both the L/R and Sub output by the same dB adjustment. FR should therefore remain flat (or conforming to target curve if using EQ) regardless of the level.

Yes…RCA cable…for the sub

Not sure what you are asking with coax? There is a digital coax out but it’s not for the sub.
I meant if a coax cable can be used for that purpose ( namely: connecting the Ultra to the Sub)
I didn't express myself clearly, sorry about that

Yes, a coax cable will work. Just plug it into the the subwoofer and the sub out jack on the Ultra. There is nothing special about coax cables.

Well there sort of is - they are 75ohm characteristic impedance - which is absolutely a requirement for digital audio.

But it also works for analogue audio - which doesn't care about characteristic impedance.

I have something similar. I have the Ultra USB out to an external DAC and Amp and I also have a Headphone amp on the line out.
For Airplay and Plex I have a Raspi 4 with Ropieee and an Allo hat which feeds optical to the Ultra.

My issue has been the sub. If I listen to the headphones with line out, the sub is still active. So I moved the sub to the amp (My Fosi amp has a sub out port) and now
when I do room correction, it doesn't seem to correct the sub correctly.

I'm still fiddlin' with the sub as I'm not sure everything is working correctly in the Ultra software with an external DAC or maybe it's me.
That's interesting, didn't know you could Wiim Ultra USB out to a DAC. That for real?

I'm impressed with the subwoofer management capabilities of the ultra. Setting the crossover accurately for 2.1 desktop is essential.

I'm very disappointed the sub can't be assigned to a single output. It runs when I switch to headphones, which requires me to have my svs remote handy. Not so handy.

I'm probably more disappointed that I don't think the sub scales volume properly with the stereo signal. I have to increase volume on the sub as I increase. It's fine for most listening, assuming few dynamic swings.

I love the ultra but sub management is meaningfully incomplete. Hopefully this is addressed with software.
I had this going on for couple weeks. Until I increased my vrms back to 2, now I have volume and crossover maxed out on Sub and it's been working great. Sub placement might help too. Maybe move it away from the wall closer to center.

New to me as well. And it's good news for me that it doesn't convey subwoofer. I'll need a USB input DAC but I'll put my headphone amp on that Wiim USB input and solve my other problem - subwoofer playing with headphones. This way saves me a subwoofer toggle with each switch between inputs.

And try a higher crossover frequency...like 150

Yes, of course. The outputs are digital or analog from internal DAC.

Even if you’re not going to use room correction, it’s actually useful to run it to set the over level of the sub.

First experience with Wiim correction was pretty bad. I used the phone. Was really hoping for better. Does it set the crossover? Mine stayed the same.

It does PEQ and PEQ, only.

Therefore it can iron out a bit too much or too little sub level, but won't touch the crossover frequency or the latency/delay/phase.

This might come on a future release.

And the 'elsewhere' could be
1) room modes
2) human misperception

What else?
That else could be your SMSL AO300.

As soon as you touch it's volume control the level difference between mains and sub will be off.

You must not use that volume control at the SMSL at all but always keep it at the same level, leaving the Ultra as the only device managing the volume.

Yeah thanks. I did have that controlled. AO300 was on 60 (0-60) for testing.

I haven't done the multimeter test, still trying to swap out equipment and see what's going on. I definitely like the Fosi v3 monoblocks over the AO300 stereo amp.

It’s more a case of ballpark whether your sub is too loud or too soft, rather than relying on your ears.

It just becomes immediately apparent if it’s too high, too low, or Goldilocks.

To set the crossover, tap the settings gear in the upper right of the first page of the app’s room correction page
