Hey ya’ll I just bought a pair of JBL 4305p speakers which I will be hooking up to my WiiM Ultra. Am I correct in thinking that if I use the analog inputs I will be using the Ultra’s DAC and if I use optical, I will be using the internal DAC of the JBL’s?
You will always be using the dac in the speakers, so it makes sense to use digital in.

My enthusiasm has been slightly dented since realising that the JBL’s don’t have a trigger switch. I’m sure I’ll get over it.
Hi,
I can't put my finger on it just now, but I'm fairly sure that the JBLs digitise the analogue input (apply ADC) anyway so you are always using the JBL's internal DAC. That's not a bad thing, but it suggests that you should use a digital connection to avoid unnecessary (but inaudible) conversion.

Thank you Jeremy. They are arriving tomorrow. Very good deal on them atm. £499

Hi,

The rating of Wiim Ultra is skewed in my opinion.
The reason being is that:
As a STRAEMER I would rate it as 4
AS a DAC I would rate it as 3
AS a Pre-amp I would rate it as 1

However, since I I ONLY intereseted in this device asa STRAEMER only I am very happy with it.
I wonder if Eversolo T8 (apart from the screen) would give better streaming?

What are you views and opinions on the comparisons of these two devices?

No it won’t and no other ‘streamer’ will either at any price.

That was and is my general understanding. There is so much fluff and BS on the streets that it is hard to see the forest...
Thank you.
I compare it to a cd transport that reads CD's. That is all it is doing reading 1's and 0's of off a silver media.

This isn’t popular, but the Sonos Port supports more services than any other streamer, and has digital out, if you think you need it. I have no trouble playing FLAC files hosted on a cheap, BeeLink PC. Supposedly you could use any NAS.

I all my music files on my local Qnap NAS.
I have ROON installed on that NAS as well.
So far no issues whatsoever...

I am considering the WiiM Ultra Streamer for my second chain to be used directly with my Roland DS-5 (active) via optical. It should replace TViX player that served me for more than two decades. The main intended use is internet radio, occasionally locally stored Hi-Res audio files, no multiroom needed.

Two questions:
- Can WiiM Ultra be used without App? (I have a regular phone, not using smart devices)
- What are wired options for accessing local files - only via NAS?

Sorry, if these issues have been clarified already before.

Thanks in advance.

you wouldn't be able to configure it without the app to connect to your home wifi (so no internet radio) or configure any other of its option
is has a USB input you can connect USB drive to - never tried it but a lot of people using it, control is from the app though

Thanks, anonyless.
Regarding SUB drive, clear.

Disappointing. Is it not possible to configure using the screen and volume control?
