I have had some annoying high frequency noise coming through my speakers from the Wiim Ultra going through a pair of Fosi ZA3s set in mono.
I had initially ruled out my Fosi za3 amps because when I did an optical out from the Wiim ultra to a Fosi Zd3 the there was no high frequency noise. It appears the Wiim does not have as good an isolation or grounding as the Fosi Zd3.
I traced the high frequency noise to the power supplies for the Za3 amps. Both introduced a small amount, sounding slightly different coming through the tweeters and audible from a significant distance. I ordered some ferrite cord beads and added them with multiple loops on the power supplies close to the amp. I also added them on the 12v trigger interconnect and a few other power cables around the system.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! All the high frequency noise is gone and there is now a much lower noise floor.
Im not sure who to blame, The Wiim ultra for picking up the interference that the Fosi Zd3 system does not, or Fosi for not supplying clean power from their power supplies. At the end of the day Ferrite beads for the win!
Here is what it sounded like pre ferrite…
