Every PC networked in the same environment should be able to see the Wiim as a device it can stream to directly. The Wiim acts as a streamer either via Ethernet or USB, only the latter is more cumbersome...
On your first point, if you have a USB drive, yes the WiiM Ultra will play it, and works as a media player when doing so, that’s genuinely not an issue.
Regarding inputs, it has:
- Wi-Fi input (for streaming)
- Bluetooth input
- Vinyl in
- RCA in
- Optical in
- HDMI in
- USB in
That’s 7 inputs, which I believe is very competitive indeed with other streamers costing twice as much. And more.
Regarding room correction, it’s grossly unfair to paint this as simply WiiM siding with Apple.
As has been said already, on so many occasions that I’ve lost count, the microphones in iPhones and iPads are few in number and very consistent, so easy to compensate for.
The microphones in other devices run into the hundreds, and it’s simply not possible to compensate for them all.
I don't disagree with any of your points. The issues I listed are my issues with it I'm sure others don't have the same situation. And because of its versatility and how much I like other Wiim products I have pre-ordered one.
As far as room correction, the calibration mics often included with AVRs don't seem like they're very expensive. Thanks for your input.
As do I - if you cannot support Android devices then please attach one of those cheap AVR micsIf you’re saying you’d like each WiiM to come with its own calibration mic., like AVRs do, then I agree.
Depends.Just wondering if I'll have similar capability to juice the sub out w/r/t gain adjustments/range?
Thanks, that should work.Depends.
You can make the Sub out 4dB louder than the Main out, but all outputs are limited to 2Vrms.
So if you set the Sub to +4dB, then the Main out will max out at 1.3V, to preserve the 4dB gap.
Technically, you don’t need a Wiim Ultra if you have a PC computer acts like a media server. All the benefits from WiiM are just the software they offered and maybe the way it looks fancy. streamer !!
My setup is simple.
- PC->Dac->Pre-tube->Amp and Mono amp.
- Router - Cat 7 cable to all. Or wifi for fun
- NUC mini setup as a media server 24TB and Roon bridge, Nas or whatever we called
I don’t think adding Wiim will bring you “music fidelity, music quality” to your system but just a convenience thing if you don’t have a computer.
Cheers.
There are other advantages.
I have Amazon Music. If I play anything on my phone, or my PC, it upscale everything to 192/24.
If I send it to my WiiM from my phone, I get the original resolution.
The WiiM also gives you output over stereo and subwoofer, with full bass management. I’ve never seen this being done with a PC.
If you can't do all that on a PC it really just means you aren't running the right software on your PC

That said I use a Wiim myself as music server these days and if my PC is in the system it's only running Tidal connect to drive the Wiim - computers are my day job and I prefer not to spend my home time on them for audio, but everything I do on the Wiim could be done on PC.
I’m a Roon user, it’s build in dsp, room correction, zone, database and Eq management. I don’t use Amazon but Qobuz & Tidal ! With Roon, you can remote music from house to work multi DAC management as well .. you can use iPhone, iPad as remote For upscaling , better use HQPlayer, depends on DAC to PCM1536 or DSD 1024 . I don’t do upscale, leave it as isThere are other advantages.

What software running on a PC will deliver bit perfect Amazon Music that doesn’t upscale every track to the resolution set for your sound card? None that I’m aware of

Again, if you have a computer with media server then Wiim is just a fancy product without improving your quality of music but a convenience thing.
Have you heard about, audirvana, Roon, foobar, hqplayer, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer !! Their apps are wisely used by audiophile.
For less quality music, you can choose Amazon, Apple, Spotify or Youtube

I am sure many here will argue tying yourself to Amazon Music is ignorant. You do you, just don't pretend you are getting better sound quality with that particular combination of components.your ignorance
