Im trying to eliminate operator error first as there is a lot of stuff about static/pops across coax (and lots of reasons, from unmatched bit rates, locked volume max, power supply ground loop, etc.

Obviously I think it should just work, but if its a setting or physical setup issue, replacing will not fix the issue.

Are you using the Pro for steam transport via coax?

Yep, no issues at all. The easiest is just return and get a new one and if your issue remains then debug further in my opinion.

the only option available in my country had a 5m cable. i had a separate power cable made from the extra 3 meters, thinking I might place the turntable far from the system if I get one in the future.

Yep, that is one of their standard ones with surge protection.

I prefer to have the surge protection at the wall outlet and not in the power bricks. I have some of the Alu line and also some of these Premium line. Some of them are not quiet. That's OK for many rooms, but not in all. Never had a sound from the wall box though.

If this power brick solved an issue for you, it's likely the previous one was rather bad.

Hey folks.

I have a brand new wiim pro, connected via coaxial to a topping s50 II dac. (ie, just using the wiim as a streaming transport.)

Before I could even do speaker calibration per the wiim setup, I was getting loud non-continuous static over both channels. The coax input light on my dac would flicker, suggesting inconsistent signal. I switched to toslink, and same issue.

I tried increasing/decreasing bitrate etc, with no noticeable change in static. Tried set volume, and a few different power plug connections, same result. There was a brief period where the static and pops receded, and I was able to listen to a couple of songs, which sounded good, but I could still hear occasional pops. Feels like a power issue?

Read a few articles about the wiim and noise over coax (not so much toslink), and I feel like Ive exhausted the mainstream fixes.

Any suggestions?

You are right, it says here "Entstörfilter EMI/RFI" and explains some basic measurements to filter high frequency interference.

It's the ones with the diagram print (alu/premium) that occasionally make a little sound/hiss here. But I have to say, those are 10 years or a bit older already.

to be honest, i dont experience this issue at all. i am using it with a viborg wall socket left over from my previous audio system. after reading your comment, i got curious and asked gemini about it. it suggested that using a high quality socket like the viborg could actually help prevent that hiss compared to standard wall sockets. that being said, you are obviously more knowledgeable about the technical details

I don't think it's a given behaviour. Just some of them having these electronics doing a little whine or hiss. Also possible they sorted that out rather quickly and it was something with the early series.

They are used for IT stuff around here.

Optical out to my DAC. Spotify will play one song and then appear to progress to the next song but play no audio. The only way to progress to the next song is to cycle through the outputs back to optical out.

I don't not have this issue when using AirPlay for Spotify and have decided to use AirPlay moving forward. This is my first Wiim product. After years of reading rave reviews I guess I just expected better. I'm glad there are redundant protocols.

Try building a playlist of similar bitrate songs and see if they all play. Maybe the DAC is getting stuck decoding dissimilar bit rate songs?

I have had no issues using Spotify with my WiiM Mini.

When you use Wiim as a preamp before DAC , Wiim cuts bits to reduce volume, basically to low volume; even if you're on Tidal and the stream shows 24bits, that results basically halfway to DAC.

BS - and easy to test, as i have a WiiM Pro connected to a SU1 DAC on optical:
i played a song that i know is "MQA enabled" (using upnp) from Symfonium app, to the Pro. turned the volume to 100% and disabled room correction - the MQA led on the SU1 turned on, to indicate it's an MQA file - so same bitrate, same same rate (bit perfect)

The Arylic LP10 box mangles the bitstream and has severe reliability issues, this was my next stop.

So far, this box is a perfect fit for my use case:
-I stream Lossless, right now Spotify and Tidal
-I use the optical out @24/96 to my high end systems, don't use internal DAC
-I hardwire ethernet, wi-fi too flaky over months of use
-I can disable the touch controls, keeps the cats from "helping"
-Lastly, the 12V trigger and volume disable allows easy integration into my system.
