WiiM Pro - Review & Measurements (Streamer)

They can be compared. I'm sure somebody will measure the Wiim with PEQ enabled. I know @VintageFlanker has some RME kit so perhaps he can measure both. I have no idea what the test would consist of but presumably looking for distortion caused by implementing same PEQ in both devices.

I do know that enabling the GEQ on earlier versions of the wiim firmware ruined the measurement scores but believe that was fixed in software.
Maybe it is just something dumb as increasing +X dB in GEQ or PEQ and the software does not calculate and compensate with -X dB in preamp, and clips and generates all nasty distortions. RME had this figured out for ages now.

"this is the problem (i warned wiim in spring 22) that has been shown and explained in the wiim forum even in the current peq mode.. unaddressed..

been tried for a while using a drc to get around the thing.. but recently got removed.. so back to square one.."

Well, I guess they have to sort it out eventually in one of their frequent updates.

since the existence of the eq.. has never been settled...I hope that the engineers who have realized their peq functions will take advantage of this to fix this big bug of the eq..
an energetic drc was in the end perhaps the least worst of the bad waiting solutions.. ...

I have a question thats, in real life, is very important for me when using airplay.

I use an Apple TV 5 for watching tv , and I use airplay from the Apple TV device to my Yamaha wxc50 for the sound. Theres no delay in the sound this way and lip synk are good . A big advantage is that I can use the Apple TV remote for volume regulation using airplay this way.

I write this because I have tested this with an ieast streamer ( very cheap one ) some years ago and using airplay from my Apple TV was useless because of the 1 second delay appearing from the ieast player.

Can one use airplay from Apple TV- WiiM - tv for the sound without lip synk issues when watching movies ?

Got my WiiM Pro today. The setup was easy, and after a firmware update and logging in, Tidal Connect and JRiver DLNA were working perfectly. The software feels fast and polished. I can see now why all the reviews are positive, initial impression was great so far.

A lot of work by the WiiM team with the support of the WiiM community to reach this level.

"When EQ is set On, it widely affects performance:
Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (SINAD) - 24b/44.1kHz
Obviously, you do not want to use EQ at fixed volume, unless 57dB SINAD (before D/A conversion) is something you are looking for... It becomes way cleaner with volume is unlocked, the lowered at about 95%. This issue could be easily fixed by firmware, by setting max volume about 1dBFS down."

How to avoid performance loss with EQ?
Turn off fixed volume in WiiM Home app?

I prefer the -1 db in the EQ stetting as the max gain and lower the other settings.

It's old behavior and no longer valid. All you need to do when EQ is on is to compensate any positive gain using the volume level or new volume limiter feature.
Where can I find the " new volume limiter" ?

I just got the new update...PEQ is not saving your setting/adjustment, you can name them save, but nowhere to find

For some reason it's implemented only in iOS version of the WiiM Home app.
Android app just updated with the limit volume setting, as well as the ability to change the filter types for the first and last PEQ filter.

Is there a minimal android version necessary to work with peq? Also, tidal connect disconnects changing eq from custom to off. Anoying to say the least. ( wiim pro)

Not that has been stated by WiiM, and the PEQ behaviour may be a bug. Best dropping WiiM a ticket thru the feedback section in the Wiim home app

Since PEQ introduction, the EQ section does weird stuff, including bugs when using Tidal Connect. I will not 'drop a ticket', I am weird too.

No update, but PEQ section changed (how!?) to be fine, now all buttons work (save etc).
