WiiM Pro - Review & Measurements (Streamer)

Thanks to the forum, I bought Wiim pro. There are questions. How to properly turn off Wiim pro? Just pull the plug from the outlet? Or is there a software way?
if you are in voltage 100-120v.. (?)
you should check if your transformer is not classically a 100 -....240v

Found the answer how to properly turn off Wiim pro in Wiim support. 1) It is recommended not to turn off the Wiim pro. It will automatically go into standby mode. 2) If you still need to turn off the streamer, then you can simply disconnect it from the network. There is no software shutdown. Just pull the plug out of the socket.(There is still a risk of shutdown when updating the firmware. Therefore, it is advisable to look at the Wiim Home program before disconnecting from the outlet. Is the firmware update taking place at this time.)

A new Wiim Home version 2.5.4.230804 has been released for Android, which indicates next week a firmware update with the addition of a parametric equalizer!

The firmware release next week is a beta for those who signed up for it, but hopefully if testing goes well, there will be a public release by the end of the month. WiiM haven’t yet specified how many bands there will be although 10 has been mooted for the Pro and maybe 4 for the Mini due to lack of memory.

While the PEQ beta isn’t out, the other revolutionary feature - AirPlay sending - beta is out today. I’ve been using it for a bit today - laundering Apple Music from the beta WiiM Pro to WiiM Minis and AirPort Expresses driving various indoor and outdoor zone systems. It can take any signal in the transmitter Pro and send it out. Realistically the main use case for this feature IMO is broadcasting from a turntable to zone systems or HomePods anyway, filling a HUGE hole in the market - but I haven’t put the Pro with beta loaded in the room with the TT yet.

I don’t have the skills or ultimately the interest in digital signal purity that some of y’all do - and but from the perspective of a layperson it seems to work well so far. Latency is obviously higher than direct connection, so it takes a beat longer to play, pause, or resume. I haven’t had any crashes, drops or stutters so far. I’m impressed, and I’m sure people more expert in digital audio than me will iron out any bugs with signal levels or clipping that may exist (but haven’t been apparent so far in causal listening).

I just ordered a Wiim Pro based on this review.

I also just bought and received a Wiim pro. Fortunately, I have two spare DACs. Of these two, which one do you think would work best? A Toppings E30, or a Toppings D50s? Thanks!

No Wiim Pro Plus for you? :)
No DAC needed, I already have a pretty good one on my main system. :)

What was decisive for me was:
1. Excellent measurements of the digital outputs.
2. Tidal Connect integration.
3. Parametric EQ.
4. Gapless.

I wished they had a "Pro Digital" version that gets rid of the DAC part altogether and adds more digital outputs like AES-EBU, BNC, I2S, etc.

Parametric eq is not bitperfect and is in analogue domain.

PEQ is not bitperfect by definition.
And how come it is in analogue domain? It is DSP, as in digital. Are you saying EQ does not work on digital outputs?

Well how does it compare to the rme dac adi2 whereby it is in the digital domain.
can they be compared?

They can be compared. I'm sure somebody will measure the Wiim with PEQ enabled. I know @VintageFlanker has some RME kit so perhaps he can measure both. I have no idea what the test would consist of but presumably looking for distortion caused by implementing same PEQ in both devices.

I do know that enabling the GEQ on earlier versions of the wiim firmware ruined the measurement scores but believe that was fixed in software.
