Yes, I quoted by memory, don't know why I worte Ricardo Mutti.

You mean this one (the latest I know, but there are another with the sale cover in Tidal, 24/192 that sounds bizarre, or may be psychological).

This I putted here sound better to my ears than the original one, but may also be psychologically induced.

Yes, this is the one that's 24/96, not 192 as I mentioned earlier. It's incomparably better than the previous ones. I ripped everything to my hard drive and threw away the old rips...

Oui c'est celle ci qui est en 24/96 et pas 192 comme je le disais de mémoire. Incomparablement supérieur aux précédentes. J'ai tout rippé sur mon HDD et jeté les anciens rips...
Your translator has gone AWOL.

I have set my eyes to the fosi audio box X5 to connect my TT to. Would Adding a wiim pro plus (via line in) help with room correction ? Are there other benefits ?

I’m a bit worried about adding to much to the chain. At this moment, my TT goes directly into the phono stage of my amplifier. Are there members who have their TT hooked up to the Wiim ?

I have a the output of a phono preamp connected to the line input of a WiiM Mini.

I think the option of enabling room correction via a WiiM Pro Plus is worth the extra processing in your signal chain.

Nice to hear... Thanks

Wiim mini is connected with a 3.5 mm jack I think ? Do you have a separate preamp hooked up or are you using the built in preamp of your TT?

I use my phono stage into the pp+ line in, works very well, and I'm doing for the DSP ability.

Thank you. Also it works with a TT too. I can try that because my TT can put out a line signal too. But adding an extra phono preamp wouldn’t be a problem you think ?

as long as you make sure the built in phono pre is not in use. (line out disabled or switched to cartridge out - however your turntable works)

EDIT - having said that - I suspect you won't get a significant improvement in sound compared with the built in pre-amp. Unless you go for one with features such as click reduction (like the parks audio waxwing)

Or just get an Ultra. If you want to use the Ultra's phono preamp make sure the TT phono preamp is not in use and connect the TT to the Ultra PHONO input. If you want to use the TT phono preamp, connect the TT output to the Ultra LINE IN.

With the Ultra (vs. Pro Plus) you'll get a display, control knob, subwoofer output, and HDMI ARC input for the same price of a Pro Plus + Fosi Audio Box X5

My amplifier has an dedicated phonostage. I think this one is better than the pre amp of the TT itself. The fosi X5 seems like an update to the phonostage of the amplifier.

With streaming audio and my CD player I am using the Wiim for room correction because the lower frequencies are a bit too much. Having said that I figured that with a phono pre I could also benefit from the Wiim.

I already have an pro plus and wanted to add this after I upgraded to the fosi audio X5. The built-in phone stage of my TT is ok but not top notch. When buying new the Ultra would have been a better choice, I agree.

But would the X5 bring improvement (first question) ? In connection to a pro plus I could also benefit from the room correction. But is this to much to add; first X5, then pro plus and then to my amplifier (second question) ?

It is possible - but you can't know without comparing reliable specifications and/or measurements. And even then - if the measured differences are audible when comparing blind, over the inherent distortion and noise of the vinyl medium - will remain debatable.

The second question is easier to answer. Having a TT to phono preamp to Pro Plus to amplifier to speaker setup is not too much. People have been using this configuration for decades. You need each one of each of these functions for vinyl playback so it is a matter of choice as to whether or not one prefers the electronics in a single box (phono preamp, preamp, amplifier) or in separate boxes. There are pros/cons to each.

Would the X5 bring sonic improvement over the built in phono preamp? Possibly. I would only purchase the X5 from a place with a generous return policy so if there is no difference to you, it can be returned.

Thank you both for responding. Testing blind would be the solution but hard to accomplish. Listening test with (unbiased) family and using a generous return policy when testing a new device and no-one hears a difference, sounds like a plan. I probably try that.

This time you will add two AD-DA process in the chain, I would prefer listening and evaluate:

TT -> phono preamp -> AD -> DSP -> DA -> amp

Probably room correction worths the extra elements, but if can use the trial period and return money, many stores offer 30 days.

Listening test with (unbiased) family
Unfortunately not possible.

Perceptive biases are not necessarily a function of "prejudices" or concious expectations. They are a fundamental aspect of how our senses work at the unconcious level. Your family will all have biases based on all sorts of random stuff - which will influence how they perceive the sound from different devices if they know what they are listening to.

Bottom line though - if you need your family to inform you of what differences they hear - then are the differences significant enough to matter to your listening enjoyment?

Obviously only you can answer that.

True as I learned here….

I am teaching science and appreciate the way science is important on this forum. Thank’s to the numerous examples on this site I learned a lot. Blind ABX testing is not an option at my home. So what is left ? Listening with my family… They don’t care about costs and looks but give their opinion (but notice I put ‘unbiased’ into parentheses).

You’re statement earlier is that the improvements might be inaudible and without proper blind testing is impossible to find out. Also true…

Should I buy an X5 and use the Wiim for room correction ? Should I leave my system as is ? Should I try the Wiim option first with the built-in pre amp of the turntable ? What would you’re recommendation be ? (And why do you think so ?)
