Fyi it shoows up in ROON so this works now.

Q: any testing done with DRC and EQ to see if this product has any unexpected behaviours in this regard ?

See recent tread on BlueOS ICON or older mini DSP ?

Btw I expect a Sinad hit exactly the same as the amount I have to lower the levels to acomodate the EQ this is a given.

But other products have shown weird stuff beyond that.

Ah, so nothing to do with the inputs but instead an output incompatibility between the Wiim and ZD3 Dac?

FWIW I can confirm my Aurora DAC is fine but, as you are now doing, I use the DAC as a volume limiter rather than in bypass. I wouldn't consider allowing a full output signal though to my speakers so I don't know if there would be any issue using it in bypass.

That's is what it is sounding like from what their support team indicated.

My experience with Wiim Pro Plus and Topping D50 III DAC has nothing of the sort, so at least we know Topping DAC is safe.
Hello,

I also considered buying a topping D50III for my Wiim pro +

First because of upgrading a dac in my cd-player but second because of a better dac instead of the one in the Wiim. First reason seems unnecessary due to a already good dac inside.

Does the Topping help you to get different or better sound from your Wiim ?

I’m very curious about your findings.

Does anyone know what the right settings are for room correction ?
A while ago I messed up with these and disabled the equalizer. Today I gave it a new try and it sounds Ok.

I will post my settings and equalizing results. I hope someone can help with the correct settings and maybe something of the equalizing settings stands out to you.

Post in thread 'PEQ Beta - Testing Experience'
https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/peq-beta-testing-experience.1295/post-19053

This seems to suggest that there is unexpected behavior. What Amir tested with WiiM product is what I tested with the Node Icon — turning on EQ but leaving everything at +0 dB. At the recommendation of @Rja4000, I tested the Node Icon with bass at -0.5 dB and there was a big difference.

The WiiM is more time consuming to test since it has no usb DAC capability. Just a few more steps, nothing horrible but still a few more steps.

Hi! If your concern is for a better DAC than the one in Wiim Pro Plus, then don't bother because even though D50III technically measured better, both DACs are excellent with no perceivable differences to my ears (and likely to most ears). I got the D50III just so that I can use the balanced out connection into the balanced Topping PA5 II+ amplifier, not really expecting a better sound out of it. Many here would agree that both DACs are pretty much transparent, and no reliably discernible difference can be identified by most people. One thing that you got with D50III is that the balance connection can output 5 V instead of Wiim's 2 V RCA output.

Iv bought one of these , had been using a phone just plugged into my dac but had constant issues with Android down sampling things to 48 or on other phones sticking everything at 192 or on my new Samsung A55 just not working at all . Tried a ipad same down sampling thing, got fed up .

So , I always expect things not to work or be a ball ache, this thing didn't cause any issue and took me through the setup with no fuss or stress . It just works !

I'm plugging it into my DAC via coaxial, using Amazon music through the wiim's app , I'd rather be able to use the actual amazon app as i don't like the interface through the wiim app but it dose work .

It's got a brilliant PEQ , 10 band I think and a neat regular EQ . Both seem to work , can tell of any deterioration in SQ using either . I use a tiny bit of EQ but I'm happy to have the function.

Not used the room correction but had a quick look , seems straightforward so a nice addition. I already use Anthem genesis, which i wish has a EQ but alas no.

To me it's a miracle in a box and costs almost sod all . What a time to be alive , just have to turn the music up and not watch the news ...

Just click on your account icon in the upper left corner of the AM app on your phone and then select Connect to a Device option on the list. It should then show your Wiim device, which you can connect and cast to from the AM app on your phone directly. Same bitperfect quality, no downsampling. Enjoy!

Thanks for that, I did try it before but no joy, Device not listed .

Edit , Iv manged it , signed into Alexa through wiin app not just amazon music , then Wiim pro appears in the my Device list in AM app . Thanks for the nudge , that and Google AI got me there ..

Hi,

Totally clear (and transparant) answer. I was expecting this already since I took some extensive reads here on the forum but was curious. I don't have balanced inputs on my amplifier but you might also use a dac for conveniance as a hub where a few sources are coming together in 1 output to your amplifier (less cables)

Thanks for your answer.

As a total non technical guy, I would like to try an indirect comparison for the Room Correction: Wiim Pro vs. Yamaha RN803D.
That is: set Ypao automatic RC for Yamaha, then feed Wiim Pro optical into Yamaha, so do another RC, this time with Wiim, OVER Ypao. Objective: to see what corrections does Wiim over Ypao.
Any simple recommendations how NOT to screw this? Is it feasible as indirect method?

AFAIK YPAO only tries to equalize the left and right speaker, so will not fix issues present in both channels.

Therefore, I wouldn't exactly call it room correction.

Whether there's any point in stacking WiiM correction on top of YPAO is debatable.

The home theater version will try to hit a target curve, but it is gentle with the correction.

In hifi receivers, you don’t get a target curve and this is where they talk about the matching the left and right. It’s hard to know how much of this is pure marketing versus some sort of flexible target curve that is automatically generated to balance the sound.

I think it will be relevant as end user to see Wiim corrections standalone vs Wiim corrections OVER Ypao. Only technical people cannot compare apples with oranges (joke).

I think it’s a great idea. YPAO has Reflected Sound Control which is a FIR filter that isn’t reproduced by WiiM. The WiiM allows more aggressive tuning.

I actually think WiiM before YPAO makes the most sense because any phase issues created by the WiiM’s PEQ gets corrected by YPAO, but you sort of have to try both options.

Empirically I agree with you about the other way round. But first I said, I am interested in the measurable difference that can be read in Wiim corrections.

New firmware is out, most interesting feature is smart presets, which isn't listed in the online release note, it's like they cannot keep up with their own rate of change.

I have a bluesound node 2l feeding my Denon x8500h via digital over coax. I'm not sure if the WiiM would be an upgrade in this scenario where I'm not using the DAC in the streamer. Is there a place where I can compare the DAC performance of the Denon (which has an AKM AK4490EQ) to that of the Wiim Pro Plus?

In base sound quality, it would not.

Here you go:

In my opinion, the best addition is the customizable volume steps for the remote.

Also, I'm really excited about the loudness feature they have planned. I really appreciate this feature in Yamaha amplifiers, so if it's similar to that, I'd be more than happy to use it.
