That's good to hear. We have to hope that Unbalanced was just unlucky. If we didn't already have a streaming system based on an RPi and Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital, the Wiim units would be an obvious choice. (How some can charge £/$ thousands for no better performance baffles me!)The Wiim units are great. Have a Pro Plus and two Ultras.
How would "some streamed albums" cause a problem?Had some trouble with my Pro, problem with the Wifi connection, opened ticket, had some correspondence, seems that some streamed albums created the trouble. Resolved by itself in a few days.
I think if there were widespread issues with the WiFi modules in the Wiim devices we would most definitely know about it.That's good to hear. We have to hope that Unbalanced was just unlucky. I know it's SUBJECTIVE but this is interesting from someone who's spent crazy money (IMO) on audio. <https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2024/07/19/the-wiim-ultra-review-unreal-hifi-value-for-real/>The Wiim units are great. Have a Pro Plus and two Ultras.
It is a fantastic piece of kit, especially in terms of value for the features you get.I know it's SUBJECTIVE but this is interesting from someone who's spent crazy money (IMO) on audio. <https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2024/07/19/the-wiim-ultra-review-unreal-hifi-value-for-real/>
This is what Wiim support said in mails. They asked me to indicate exactly what album, on what platform I listened when it broke. Strange enough, after the first fix, I tried the same album and in few minutes it broke againHow would "some streamed albums" cause a problem?
This is a specific album? If it's repeatable, what is it? I find this quite bizarre. This is what Wiim support said in mails. I don't know Wiim so I don't know if you will benefit from a DLNA server on your server. We certainly do: MinimServer and the built-in Media Server on our Synology give easy access via track, album, artist, etc., each with indices, with Volumio on an RPi as the streamer. LMK if you need more info.Replacement arrived this morning and is working fine.
I am always a little nervous with Amazon items because of their poor restocking practices. One difference that is not significant for me is that the first unit included a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for the trigger output. If I had never received a unit that had it in the box I would never have known. It is not listed as an included item. The first unit I received had it in the box along with a little info card explaining what it was.
I really really want this to work as the WiiM units are a really fantastic combination of features and software at a terrific price. I did a lot of searching and the units I found that do at least as much as the WilM Pro Plus seem to be at least twice as expensive.
Now a question. Most of my music is stored on a server and is organized in folders as Artist / Album / tracks. Is there a way to search tracks? Is there a way to search by genre? Is there a plugin that supports either of these. The Home Music Share does not seem to have a mode where it indexes the content and then makes it searchable common attributes.
Anything by them causes a problem?Deezer, Vangelis, Delectus.
What can I say?

Surely the Wiim is a streamer and DAC all-in-one so you don't need the RPi or DAC? What is your server? Synology, QNAP, Asustor, something else?Thank you. It appears that step number one is to setup a DLNA server. I will see if I can get that going in the next few days. If that works I have an unused Pi3 that is waiting to be repurposed. Then I will need to find a DAC correct? Data path would be Server -> RPi -> DAC -> Amp . Is that correct?
What exactly was the problem? I've had an odd experience that a particular tidal album plays with distortion and static. Restarting, resetting, cache did nothing. It can happen across Wiim devices, outputs etc. This is what Wiim support said in mails. They asked me to indicate exactly what album, on what platform I listened when it broke. Strange enough, after the first fix, I tried the same album and in few minutes it broke again

Edit: in case I wasn't clear, your path will be the same as before, Server -> Wiim -> Amp.
Gotcha. Yes, you can set up the RPi + DAC to create another streaming system. How did you use the RPi before? We use Volumio, a free (you can pay for extra features if you like) OS/streaming app that runs from an SD card or flash drive (we use SD). There are others, but we've settled on Volumio.Sorry I was combining a couple of things and I wasn't very clear.
My server is a Linux system with a raid array exposed via Samba.
Agree that path 1 will be Server -> Wiim -> Amp.
Then I was intrigued by the possibility of setting up the RPi to effectively mimic what's going on inside of the WiiM. That's where path 2 Server -> RPi -> DAC -> Amp came from.
And he didn’t even mention Room Correction and or equalization anywhere that I could see, browsing the review.I know it's SUBJECTIVE but this is interesting from someone who's spent crazy money (IMO) on audio. <https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2024/07/19/the-wiim-ultra-review-unreal-hifi-value-for-real/>
No, I don't think so. I was just a bit surprised that someone into the subjective stuff, who normally dismiss anything not seriously expensive, thought the Wiim sounded close to gear 100x the price. We ASR types know that that is what the measurements should expect you to hear, but that's not how it works in SubjectiveLand. And he didn’t even mention Room Correction and or equalization anywhere that I could see, browsing the review.
The RPi was used to drive a home-brew digital picture frame. Thanks for the advice.Gotcha. Yes, you can set up the RPi + DAC to create another streaming system. How did you use the RPi before? MinimServer should run on your server. It's a bit of a fiddle to set up but very flexible and with a small footprint. It's especially good for classical music but fine for anything. <https://minimserver.com/index.html>
